Spray on wax, any good?

Yesterday, I went to a local auto shop and see they have quite a few of spray on wax products. Did anyone use those? Any comments?

I parked my car on the street so it gets dirty pretty fast, and I don't want to do the regular waxing everytime when I wash my car, so I am thinking about using the spray on products between my regular waxing.

Thanks!

I use Eagle One wet/shine spray on wax and i love it. I use it like once every two weeks and a regular wax every other month.

How good is it compared to a standard wax job?

i used some kinda Minute Wax from Turtle, and i musta did a halfass job, cause the next day the spray had dried all over the car, and it looked like my paint was dull.

I like it....it's not like it was just buffed, but I think it cleans up nicely.

Consider a spray wax like gel is to hair, or grease is to a bowling alley. It creates a temporary shine, but does not last.

The next, more durable type of wax is liquid (geL) wax. People use liquid because of its ease of application, and its decent life. These will generally last a few weeks.

The best wax by far is a paste wax. Paste wax usually have the perfect percentage of carnauba (you are getting a carnauba wax, right?) wax to add depth and a considerable amount of shine to the paint. Paste wax (for example, One Grand Blitz) lasts for quite a while.

The more frequently you wash your car, the longer any type of wax will last since contaminants don't sit on the paint surface for extended periods of time.

Also, if you have normal wax routine (monthly, maybe) with paste or liquid wax, just use a QD (quick detailer) which is just as effective in the shine department as spray wax, and doesn't leave any unwanted "oils" that a spray wax might leave (because you might want to add another layer of real wax to build more depth).

Hope this helps.

I've never tried it but I'd be willing to bet it's pretty good. The waxes are so advanced nowadays it's great. I always use cleaner/wax now because it takes out stuff that's stuck to the car, and it seems to last quite a long time. Even though it feels more abrasive it's supposedly safe on clear coats.

I used the Wax As U Dry and the spray stuff. They both suck. Here are the only products I use on my car now.

Meguairs Cleaner Wax (marroon bottle)
Meguairs Show Car Shine Wax (tan bottle)
Meguairs Yellow Wax (tan bottle)
Meguairs Quick Mist Detailer- The BEST product in the world. I use this every single day. Spray on and wipe in between washes. Perfect for getting road grime and tire gel spinoff off.

But to answer your question, I think spray wax is crap.

The spray wax's we used at the carwash I used to work at pretty much sucked. If they did any good, I couldn't really tell, but people would over-apply and it would streak and look a little spotty, causing it to look worse than if the car was just washed.

People would always say "I paid $3 extra for that?" At best people felt like they were getting what they paid for and didn't think anything more of it.

I'd suggest just keeping to a normal hard-wax routine using a touch-up spray in between washes like others recommended.

Thanks for the advices.

I am using Meguairs Yellow Wax (liquid) for my regular waxing. I thought they are the same (witht the paste type).

Also, if I wash my car at touchless car wash (instead of hand wash), will the soap strip the wax?

Yea Yea I use TurtleWax spray on wax. It leaves like a buildup on the car,not like regular wax. Car gets dirtier faster. I won't use it any more. I bought an electric buffer and do that bad boy every chance I get.

Did you get that one from Costco? hehehe... I am a Costco loyal fan also. Well, I had that (Gold wax) before and I found Meguair's Yellow wax better as it last longer. Plus the gold wax's good smell attract a lot of bugs after I wax the car...

Besides waxing, I will recommend you to use a clay bar (I used Mother). The difference is huge and it worths every penny and effort.

Meguairs Gold is decent, but I prefer the stuff I mentioned above. Get the stuff in the tan bottles. And all I use are the liquids. Not the pastes.

I have yet to try Zaino, but it will be my next big step.

With the north CA sun plus I park on the street, it doesn't last over a month. The Yellow wax seems last a little longer.

Canadian Tire? Are you in Canada? I think Yellow Wax is ~$14, if I remember correctly.

I used Eagle One Wax-As-U-Dry the other night. All I can say is WOW!. I used to go to a auto-wash in Harrisburg that had a Clearcoat Conditioner (other washes have it). The Clearcoat Conditioner would give the paint a deep wet look and was silky to the touch. The EagleOne product did the same for my Max last night.

I don't think it is going to be a good longterm wax (the Clearcoat Conditioner wasn't) but is a good addition (at $4.99 a bottle for 12 washes) to the weekly wash.
