I am very picky about the clothes I use to buff too. I only use microfiber towels, 70/30 blend. They're expensive, but they're well worth it and give me a peace of mind when I detail.

Anyway, Dave Holmes, the Sealer and Glaze most likely hides the swirls. It is very practical and gets the job done quickly. The only downside to "hiding" is the compound that fills in the micro-marrings and small scratches will eventually come out. That's why others use rubbing compounds...esentially it is a liquid sandpaper of around 2500+ grit. I'm trying to be careful not to overuse it...I know that the 4th Gen Maxima's paint is very thin except along the edges.
I also use the 3M Finish Restorer after compounding.

Personally, I would invest in something called a PC. I think already mentioned it, and posted a link too.

It's a bit expensive, but if you research on how to use it, you will find it is probably the best investment you'll ever make if you detail your car often. Combined with a 3M Swirl Mark Remover, it can take out fine scratches and swirls in a snap.

Just finished detailing my Max...

And like I said this time I used both Meguiar's The Professional polish #7 and wax #26. All I can say is that this is not easy to apply. The products seemingly never dry, so you will end up with swirl marks no matter what you do. Anyways they take about an hour longer in total to apply than Mothers. But the stuff looks great - as good as Zaino when I used it. It was not sunny today so I did not get a chance to see the shine, but the reflection is outstanding. I think it runs $8-9 a bottle, but since it's a very thin liquid you will only be able to cover 3 cars with them. One thing I do like is that it leaves the car with a very "wet look" which many companies advertise but cannot live up to. Anyways like I said it's definitely good stuff, but time-taking and difficult to apply. I need to try Zaino again and compare. And I need some time to see how the shine/reflection lasts before I can fully judge the Meguiar's polish and wax. Just thought I'd give you all a little update.

Very nice looking car and great effort on your part! I have used the #7 and #26 products and I agree that they are hard to apply but the car looks great afterwards. The problem is that the wax doesn't last long. I have since switched to 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and 3M Perfect-It Show Car Wax and have been quite pleased with the results. The trick with the 3M wax is to wipe it off before it's completely dry.

Thanks. I will try the 3M Perfect-It Show Car Wax next time or after I try Zaino again, but I have used 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and I did find good results with that as well. Thanks for the info,

Oh well I'll give it another shot, I sitll have the stuff lying around here somewhere. How do you like Klasse? Does it last long and is it a thick coat like Mothers? Also did you get your Souveran yet?

Your not suppose to use a buffer with Zaino. Any wax with a buffer will cause swirls. You do it correctly by hand, you won't get that.

Zaino personally is the best wax out. I have tried many different brands, and Zaino just doesn't swirl even if you try.

what are you talking about? if you do it correctly with a buffer you will not get swirls. i have been doing this for years. maybe you just aren't too good with a rotary buffer?

For the past two days I've done my 89 GXE and my mom's 97 GXE. Here's what I did;

1. Dawn
2. Clay Magic
3. GC Wash
4. #7
5. #26 Wax

Needless to say, I currently cannot move the right side of my body. The efforts were well worth it though. I know there are better products out there, but our car's look great right now!

I'm doing a detail on a Mercury Cougar tomorrow, and washing a 330i on Wed. so maybe I've got a little business starting.

Anyone here besides Turdz have or work for a detailing place?

BTW, Autopia is addicting

Rotary buffers cause swirls. That is why THEY are not RECOMMENDED. Hand polishing its the best. So what if you been doing it for years. If you want to get down to it, I have been doing it for 15 years.

Hmm you're right Russ. I recommend using a buffer only w/ swirl mark removers and compounds. As I said before, you need the high speed friction to create heat to melt the compound to actually be effective.

Wax should always be applied by hand, no matter what.

I can't imagine using anything else but a PC, I can't stress that enough.

enjoy...be sure to look at the tutorial pic way below, its really cool. I need to get me one of those

What I meant to say was that I have been using rotary buffers swirl-free for years. Improperly used rotary buffers do cause swirls, but in the right hands they are wonderful tools.
