Syn Oil Woes: A lot of oil talk lately but have you heard.............

Of this happening (People don't be alarmed, just do the reasearch to be safe)????

: I was doing my body lift on my TJ this last weekend and I discovered that my oilpan has sprung a small leak in the front. It is not a bad leak, but still a leak. I talked with my service manager/department and he said synthetic oil sometimes causes this to happen and that is one of the reasons why he doesn't suggest syn oil. (He doesn't like me as much since I enlightened him on the Magnusson Moss Act. The feeling is mutual.) I know he is blowing smoke but does nyone have any ideas or input? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

: Thanks, oh - 99 TJ sport w/15000 miles (syn oil since 4000)

B.S. If it's gonna leak, it's gonna leak! Doesn't matter what oil is in there.

Some people should get out of the automotive repair business.

How can you compare the VQ in the Maxima to the ancient 4.0L 6 cyl from a Jeep?

A 49 cent washer would have prevented that.

Ummm....nobody's comparing engines. My thread is about that some people claim that syn oil will make your gaskets leak. I really can't understand how they came to that conclusion.

Had this problem on an Accord. I checked to make sure the oil pan bolts were torqued corrctly (they weren't) and adjusted them. Problem went away.
