Pacesetter STS review.

Yo,

I installed my STS this morning at 2am. Couldn't wait long . I didn't take off my cat to do it, I just unbolted the rubber handers that hold the front piping in place and moved it around. I moved the heatshield towards the y-pipe to clear the shift assembly. I set the ball at about 60% max and it's a big difference from stock. Went I went back to put the heatshield on I just stuck a thick nut between the undercarrage and the heatshield so the shifter could clear it. At about 60% max setting the shifter just barely clears the shield with the nuts I used. I'm prolly gonna go back and put thicker nuts between the shield and the car.

The test drive was nice. The shifter just clicks into gears now. The car is a lot smoother when I let out the clutch after each shift I guess because there's less time for the rpms to fall between shifts. I used a **** from the new SpecV sentra which has a very comfortable shape to it. The sts made the whole shifter sit lower too, which I like very much.

All in all, it is definitely worth the $60 I paid to southwestautoworks for it.

Peace.

Re: Pacesetter STS review.

How about the notchy-ness and roughness of pushing the shifter?

Does that bother you?

I played with the shifter of a guy with an STS and although the shifts are shorter and more precise, the thing is hard to move..

Today in the morning it was a little ruff, but as I drove around it became almost as smooth as stock. I greased everything I could on that thing

Peace.

Thanks for the write up.

I like the idea of using bigger nuts as a spacer for the heatshield, as opposed to banging the shi+ out of it.

That was a good breakdown of your process, and every little suggestion / idea helps

if its really notchy. try using high temp silicon grease as lubricant for the ball joint. that helped alot!

also. dont forget to stretch the little spring underneath the car to return the shifter to the "neutral" position.

I guess you only need to stretch the spring if you set the ball at a lower setting(70-100% max). My spring is just fine and the shifter moves freely.

Peace.

dude, but that's half the fun, I loved banging the shi+ out of the heatshield and I was even happier when it was still rubbing... so I could take it out again and beat the shi+ out of it again

Thanks for the info. I have mine in the box still; I'm afraid to open it before I have time to do the install. How long did it take? I plan on using the stock shift ***; is this feasible?

In neutral, my STS is fine springing back to the middle when I move it to the left, But to the right, it sticks. IceY2K1 told me that this is normal. Are you guys experiencing this too?

Oh, and my STS is at the lowest possible setting.

Yeah, I have a 6spd **** with a 5spd tranny The install took me about 2 hours without removing the cat. If I was to remove the cat, it would have taken me another 2 hours because the bolts were rusted and stuck. Plus, I didn't like the idea of reusing the old gasket and I didn't have a new one on hand. You can use the stock shift **** on the sts, but be careful when you go to take the stock one off the stock shifter. My stock **** unscrewed right off for. About 2 weeks prior to receiving my pacesetter, I played around with the stock **** and I guess loosend the glue inside. And the day I went to install the STS it unscrewed right off. So you might want to play with the **** in advance.

asu174,

My STS does not stick anywhere, but as you have read I have mine set at about 60% of max. Sticking might be more common with the max setting of the STS.

Peace and to help everybody.

Yeah I really like my short shifter also, but I did the same I just greased everything well and shifting is smooth as pie. But the only thing I do have to do is dent the heat shield a little becuase it's hitting it a little bit.
