Basically put, the CL-S/TL-S will be playing the catch-up game during the 1/4mile. Crakura's trap higher though

not true, if max shift early it'll stay in powerband just like a CLS.

I would pull little by little in the upper RPMs, and the Max would fall off a bit in the higher RPMs.
The CL-S may always be in its powerband, but the dyno plots prove that it's still not making more power than the Maxima until it crosses 5600rpm. Plus your shift points put the engine at 4000-4500rpm so it's back in the lower range after each shift.

But you're right. Gearing DOES make a big difference. The Maxima AT has 4 widely spaced gear ratios that are quite tall (45, 82, 128) vs your shorter and closer spaced Acura gearing (46, 76, 116). The shorter gearing can help to makeup the power deficit, and it also helps to explain why the Acura's tend to trap out a bit higher at the track than the 2k2 Max auto's. One the Max hits 3rd it bogs like mad for the last few hundred feet, but you guys are still cooking in a fairly hot gear.

But we won't talk about what happens on the highway after you go into 4th and the Maxima is still in 3rd

Correct

Max / CL-S 1st gear is equal. The Maxima weighs 200 lb less and has a TON more torque so it'll rip off the line faster than a CL-S. But the CL-S's 2nd and 3rd are much shorter than the Maxima's. So the Maxima is bogging away stuck with the taller gearing, meanwhile the Acura maintains a higher overall rate of acceleration and ends up about even with the Maxima at the 1/4 mile line. But because it was accelerating harder in 2nd and 3rd, the Acura's trap is higher, and it's in the act of PASSING the Maxima at the line.

So in shorter races from a stop, the Maxima has the advantage. In longer races to higher speeds, the Acura has the advantage. Unless you're going beyond 110 mph. Gearing then favors the Maxima again.

If two cars have the same ET (2k2 Max auto and CL-S 5AT) but one traps 2 mph faster (the Acura), that means it was behind before the line, even right at the line, and will be AHEAD shortly after the line.

hahaha...I remember that thread. I wasn't sure if it made sense or not. I was going to look at all that a little closer but I got too busy/sidetracked and forgot all about it. hehe
