Totally unbelievable, but here's the Neon SRT-4. SCC tests it in the Dec. issue. Looking at the dyno charts, you can tell it's a ringer car though.
Check it outhere.

Those numbers are ****in' bogus. The thing only has 205hp and 215tq at the crank. The SOB is RWD though...Originally posted by Black VQ

That's not a ringer fellas, that's the truth. Dodge, like Chevy with the F-Bodies, has always been infamous for underrating thier cars. Dodge turbo cars are pretty much bulletproof. MOPAR also will have a dealer installed 75hp upgrade for SRT Neon too.

The Neon SRT is Chrysler's second fastest car next to the Viper. Early estimates pegged the 0-60 in about 5.9 seconds. I do agree that the car is a good performer but I can't get over the fact that it is still a NEON!! Neon = bad quality, crappy ride, countless headaches. Trust me, I know because I sell a good number of Neons at my work and we always have quality issues with them.

Those cars are soft. You can buy a used 2001 for $8,000. Imagine the book an a SRT in a year.
The neons do come in handy for those special finance deals heems.

I find it hard to believe that anything Dodge makes is bulletproof.Originally posted by Dave B

This new Neon, whether anyone likes the styling or not, will be a wickedly strong running car.

Ive run 26 psi of boost through one of my Dodges that came from the factory with 11 psi and have run 25 psi through one that came from the factory at 7 psi. All on pump gas!
That sure seems like proof of some over-engineering to me!

No need to worry! Most Maxima owners wont get to see the Neon for very long anyway. By about 60 mph, it should be far enough ahead that you dont have to "cringe" at its looks Originally posted by densetsu

I personally think the car looks pretty damn cool. With MSRP around $20k, this car is going to appeal to alot of people.

Chrysler was actually well know for Turbos in the 80s. When the SRT was introduced I read an article in AutoWeek and they raved about how strong Chrysler builds their Turbo engines. The rest of their cars suck, but they know how to build turbos
The scary thing is that SCC got a 5.8 0-60mph. That's the same as their time for the WRX, but the Neon is FWD! Since SCC's times are usually higher than other mags, we might be seeing mid to low 5s just like with the WRX.
I was watching something on Speedvision last night where they were testing the new PT Cruiser with the same engine. I turned to my girlfriend and proclaimed that if I ever get bullied by a PT or neon, I’ll crawl in a closet and p!ss myself for a week. Then I’m selling a kidney and heading to Kentucky to get turbocharged!

But seriously, so chrysler makes good turbos, good for them. The rest of the car is still crap. Everyone I ever knew that owned a Dodge will never own a Dodge again. That's about 10 people I know, off the top of my head. Dodge is like a hot stove; You touch it once, get burned, and you never touch it again. Just my observation. Please no flames.
The engine and the turbo combined might make for a fairly good combination if dodge's past reputation holds, but...
the rest of the car....
A turbo conquest or shadow or etc might be a fun project turbo car to work on, but I wouldn't have it as my daily driver what with ride quality/interior quality/other quality issues taken into consideration.

Trust me I know, because I drove one.
Inherited it when I got married. Bought the wife new beetle (TDI), got rid of my old geo storm (bad decision), and kept that POS Neon.
That piece of crap cost me so much it was like having a car payment. Not to mention that those things are not built for anyone over six feet tall...I literally had to crane my neck forward at stop lights to see them. No leg room, no headroom, not trunk room. Thank god on the final bill, wife finally agreed to go car shopping--which is how I wound up with my Max.
Never, ever, ever buy a Dodge product, no matter how cool it looks to you, or how fast it goes. You think the interior rattles, sound system, and wind noise are bad on a Maxima???
If you can afford a Viper, you can afford the repair bills, and more power to you.
Did I mention never buy a Dodge piece of crap??? I can give you tons of details and stories.
