Nothing screams "I've got small junk between my legs" more than a sport bike or a bright yellow Corvette 
All my roommates in college had sportbikes (GSXR750, FZRs, CBR900RR, ZX-6R) and I rode them all. I'm 6' 2" 185lbs and NONE of these bikes were comfortable. They're strictly speed over comfort. They're also very tempermental, ride like ****, and have no power below 6000rpms.
Finally, two of my roommates woke up and got a Honda Magna and another got a Vulcan. Those were awesome bikes. They had torque and were super comfortable.
All my roommates wrecked their bikes at one time or another. One lost control in a neighbor and whipped out thru someone's yard, another hit a dog and shaterred most of his shoulder plus the dog bit him, another got sideswipped by an old lady in a Buick and ended up getting some major road rash, and the other hit an oil slick and got road rash.
BTW, over the course of 3 years, 3 out of 6 of my friends had their bikes stolen. Apparently it's damn easy to steal a bike, even in broad daylight.

I'm partial to the ZX-6R. It has the most humane seating position and the most usable powerband of any 600. Kawasaki is also releasing a new ZX-6 so maybe the price can be further negotiated. The R6 and GSX-R may be faster bikes but they are top-end monsters. If your just cruising down the road at 6-7k rpm and twist the throttle don't expect much to happen.

In a world of metal guardrails that can cut you to pieces, trees, curbs, wild animals, gravel/dirt/debris/oil on the roads, and cell phone driving SUV drivers you will realize your own skill and confidence in your bike is all that matters.

Hah, own one, and you'll lose your *** if you try to resell it, and if you ride it hard, it'll vibrate to pieces. They are cheap bikes that go fast, if thats all you care about, then by all means, go for one.
If you are going to buy a Jap bike, get a Yamaha, R1 or R6, they both are nice.
If you want to get the best bike for the street, then probably an Aprilia Mille R, or perhap the Ducati 999, we'll have to see how it fares
ALL of the hard core riders that stop by the shop end up putting their gixxers on consignment and buying a Mille R. No lie.

I don't ride, but many of my friends do. 75% have some year CBR600, one a GSXR600, and two have R1s. One of the R1s will smoke the rest of the pack, while the other chump with the R1 would get smoked by my grandma. This is SO true....The reason I have a 600 and not a liter bike is because I know that I can't ride the 600 even remotely close to it's potential....so why get a bike that's even MORE powerful and UNFORGIVING....Originally posted by speedtrip

hey sprint,
that kawasaki is just...eh.
but the suzuki is a really nice bike.
My friend has one (600cc)and loves it!
I happen to love it too but he doesnt let me ride it anymore after this one little incident with a moving car and an accidental endo (<--sp?)
couldn't walk straight for a good half hour.

I think i am going Kawasaki for a couple reasons..
1) its older and cheaper ie. I can drop it and not get mad
2) its a great bike for crusing.. the most comfortable 600 in its class.
3) my two other friends have green zx-6r's so we can all dress up together in tight green black leather suits
4) its not the fastest.. but its fast enough.. and chances are if i am racing someone to see who is the fastest.. i am going to end up dead anyway..
5) its all about rider.. so even if i bought the fastest i would more than likely get my *** handed to me.
