4th gen or Integra

4th gen or Integra
My friend is upgrading from his civic to a better car. I think that he is looking at the (97) intega GS (140hp?) he said that it doesn't have a VTEC, but that he can buy a 'chip' and boost it 30hp. I think that he should buy a 4th gen. How much does an Intega weigh because 140 hp is not too impressive. How much can he hope to gain with mods? Won't a 4th gen CRUSH this thing?

A Vtec motor I assume. heh
Well hard to say. I don't know if us maxima'ers want a dude that actually thinks he can get 30hp out of a chip designed for a na 4 banger 140hp motor.
But if he can't afford a GSR Integra and both cost about the same $, I would choose the maxima because you are starting at 190hp/205 ft lbs torque. And also starting at about 15 sec 1/4 and a mid 6 sec 0-60(with a 5sp) With a LS integra, he would have to probably spend alot of $ to get that thing down to a very low 15 unless he goes nitrous. Then again, he can go nitrous with the maxima also and be even lower.
But the maxima won't have the blingity, blang-blang with the import hoes. hahaha

It also seems to me that a lot of times performance parts for the Honda engines seem to cost more. I dont know if it is the supply and demand thing or what but it sometimes looks cheaper to mod a Max. Maybe it is just me

not really, you just have to know where to shop...same applies for the Max.

On another note, as a partial Teg owner (my fiancee's car), I can say that its definitely more fun to drive than my Max, but not as luxorious. They are an absolute blast in turns, but my Max KILLS it in a straight line. Not bad cars at all, but not fast cars either.

I do know someone that wants to put a 'J spec' engine in a early 90's integra.
Too much money, I think

but being that IB can offer a complete LS/Vtec package with a "0-mile" rebuild and new tranny for ~$5k it beats trying to find a close to new or quality used GSR or Type R motor(which is basically the equivalent) for the same price or less.

We're getting a little off topic here considering he never mentioned swapping an engine. So what is the deal with these chips I see on Ebay that add "TQ and HP!"?
I guess he'll never be able to catch me, right?
