Comparing 1994 Cobra VS 1997 SE

I'm racing this weekend at floyde bennit field very safe place an abonded airport field probably for $100 dollars against my friends 94 Cobra Stock. I have a 97 SE with the following mods:

Budget Y-pipe
Stillen B-Pipe
Borla Pro/XS Muffler
Frankencar Hybdrid Intake
Valvebody Modification
Haynes Tranny Cooler
Protenza RE950's
Porterfield R4S Brakes
Basic handeling mods etc...
Full Tune-up about a 1000 miles ago.

So, guys what do you think is it safe to bet. I think it should be close. I've raced 97 5.0 GT's before and I've beat em. But I've never went up against a Cobra. Its a V8 240 HP, 285 Torque. What do you guys think. By the way, don't get on me for street racing and tell me find out etc... I just want to compare the two cares and see the chances before I wager. If it goes through I will also video tape it. Thanks.

97 5.0's???

you sure you beat 240hp GTs?? with your mods I don't see your car breaking much but low 15's.

just my observations...

He never got passed my rear bumper and I shut it down at 70. Also, its an old cobra so the clutch might be slipping since he told me he never changed it. If he messes up I'm sure I can take em since my auto is pretty consistent.

i dunno, im sure that it must be in the 14's, and a modded 4th gen auto shouldnt see 14's... for a friendly race maybe, but i wouldnt bet $100 if i was you, unless you really dont need that money

Yea, I was on my way to getting the VI 2 months ago till medical bills ate my money. I'm probably going to wait till the summer to get a VI. I guess I'll just race for bragging rights and let you know if it goes down or not. My friends sometimes just forget things the day after the argument. Damn drugs.

You may be able to take him, I saw a Cobra around those years runing around a 15.4-15.6 so you may have chance.

You are dead. My buddy is a big mustang freak, I am not too crazy for them, but you gotta give respect...lets compare!

3100lb Front Wheel Drive V6 190hp 205lb ft AUTO listed in car stats as a 16.1 1/4 time

vs

3300lb Rear Wheel Drive V8 240ish hp and 300+lb ft. listed at 14.6 1/4

You are dead...better write him a check now.

Even though the older Cobras are slower, they are still faster than an auto with bolt ons. Unless he can't drive at all, he should be able to take you. Even a 5spd with bolt ons would have a hard time against the Cobra, the Cobra should still be able to take out a 5spd with bolt ons. Sorry but you will lose badly.

The 1994-1995 Cobras were good for ~14.5-14.6@95-96mph. They're a 5.0 with 240hp and 300+tq. You're car is probably good for lower 15s at 91-92mph. If he knows how to drive, you're done, especially from 0-50mph.

The older cobra's 93-94 were much weaker than the Cobras of today. They only put out 240 HP Max and Camaros and T/A's complete destroyed them in competitions. Your talking about a car that went 0-60(Mustang) in about 6.5 seconds verses a car that can go low 5's(Camaro and Transam). And cars don't get better with age so for a hundred bucks it may be worth your while. As a matter of Fact Mustangs were always Second banana to the Trans-am or Camaro. If only they still made F-Bodies, I wouldn't mind having one for a second car.

your gonna be owned

Those year cobra's come with a better intake manifold, brakes, IIRC better gears. Not to mention rumor has it that the 5.0 cobra engine is alittle under-rated. Either way unless the other driver is a total retard, you will lose. If you win get a tazer and stun gun your opponent in the nuts! .

That's because Ford didn't have to up the horsepower, they still beat GM in sales.

Also,
The only way I would see you winning is if the guy has a terrible launch. Better hope he's a bad driver.

What time are you going to be there racing, I will stop by and report back to the org. Plus I hope you know there is a police station around there. Plus I raced Izzy there and wooped his a** and I had a bad knock sensor.

They stopped making the 5.0L in the Stang back in 95. Then they went to the 4.6L. The earlier Stangs were nothing but ow 15 sec cars. The Cobra was good for 14's.

BTW-Mustangs are not highway monsters, they are all about getting off the line fast. Notice their low trap speeds with their fast times.

When I was going to sell my Maxima, I drove a '95 Cobra 5spd. It had *****, but I wasn't that impressed. My Maxima with bolt ons feels lighter on it's feet, quicker and more responsive, and drives a whole lot better. I am confident my Max could beat that Cobra I drove, especially if I threw a Dave B. clone behind the wheel.

He will eat you alive off the line if he doesn't roast his tires, and will hold you off in the 1/4th without too much trouble. Automatic Maximas, without lots of NOS or boost, are just too damn weak.

good luck man. unless you see at least mid 14s in your auto the odds are against you. you could probably beat him at a drag strip if you tree him badly. factor in everything not car related like how good of a driver he is and how much experience he has at launching. mustangs are quick stock, but if it's not launched right it will be dramatically slower. if it's streetrace style, make sure you get a jump at the start. if i were you i wouldn't race for money.

sorry to say but the cobra has you. your chances would be good with an automatic corba, and i think u could pull on an auto or 5speed GT of that year, but a 5speed cobra power to weight ratio just has you. i would not do this for money, but if you want a better chance go from a roll, thats where most american V8's tend to suck.

but dont bet money from a roll either, he will still get you, unless he cant drive, but i wouldnt take that chance for a hundered dollors

I will let you know on friday what will happen. Last time he said he was not going to race me for fun. My cousin said he might put up 20 dollars on me. Anyone else? I'll let you know what happens later on in the week.

What mods do you have, what mods does the mustang have and are you and the other drivers good? If I like the answers, I might want to bet $20 on the Mustang.

Read my first post for my mods. The mustang is stock. And everyone is betting on the stang so unless you want to bet on me, I refuse to accept your wager.
