car vac

im tired of going outside to the storeroom putting together my shop vac , running an extension cord to my car from inside my house every weekend just to vacuum (every friday evening i wash and vaccum my car) . i dont mind doing the shopvac thing once a month , but i want a little handheld to take care of the dirt until i detail my car.what is a good car vac that gets deep into the carpet(rechargeable ,like dustbuster) i know alot of them just dont pick up dirt from carpet that well . what are you guys using . i am gonna get an oreck XL1200 unless you have better recommendations (http://www.oreck.com/small-home-appl...xlauto_vac.cfm)

I have the same problem. X-mass present to myself perhaps? Oreck is a great name, hope it has the sucking power of a German gurl!

I don't know firsthand, but I think alot of those vacuums are overpriced reverse-windbags. A coworker dropped a mortgage payment on a Kirby and the thing is junk. I've heard complaints about Electrolux and Mièle as well. I would think Oreck is no different. My opinion is you get into these products when you feel somehow you have to have the best, and in reality it's no better. Like my $40 German VDO tire pressure gauge--Consumer Reports showed it was outperformed by an $8 Taiwan-made pencil gauge.

I don't have a problem using my shop vac, it works great. But if a handheld is needed, perhaps something like an 18v+ Craftsman cordless or something would do the trick. Again, some of my friends say Craftsman is junk and they got the Milwaukee, DeWalt, Bosch, Makita goin' on. But then again, do your skills really measure up to Bob Vila or Norm Abram?

Buy one get one 1/2 price, I couldn't resist, just ordered two, one for each car.

I use a $20 MVP Superline from Walmart or Autozone for just quick cleanups when I don't want to drag out a full size vac. Works great for everyday cleaning. Comes with a powered revolving brush head that actually does really good on carpet. Has a long enough cig lighter cord that I can even reach my trunk. Also has a crevice tool and even a small hose w/adapter (which I've never figured what I'd use it for). I really like it for its small size/convenience and effectiveness (esp with the powered brush), not to mention price. Small enough to keep in a shoe box in the trunk for those emergency cleanings.

I had to dig up this thread. I ordered that Oreck car vac just before x-mass. Well it was at my front door last night when I got home from work.

Let me tell you guys, this thing $ucks. I mean it really $ucks!!! I can't believe how much power the thing has. Almost feels like my Electrolux

That car vac is a great buy. If anybody is an **** as I am about keeping the inside of your car clean, this is by far the strongest car vac I've come across.

When you said sucks, I at first thought you meant that it's not good!

But now, I think I'll order 2 as well. I definitely need something like this in Boston, given all the sand and stuff that comes in during the winter (and other months).

Great heads-up njmaxseltd!
