The New Car and Driver...
It adds more fuel to the Altima/Maxima power and performance controversy. It looks like they got a 5.9 0-60 too. FYI, they got a 6-flat 0-60 for the '02 Max.
It also had some interesting potential competitors for the 6th gen.

At the beginning of the Comparison Test they mention how cool and rainy the weather was during the testing. Maybe that had something to do with it.
That Altima blew all the other 9 competitors away. I was surprised to see the Stratus R/T with a 15.8 in the 1/4. That's not bad.

I saw that. 0-60 times can vary as much as .5 seconds or more depending on conditions.

Re: Re: Re: The New Car and Driver...
You have to keep 2 things in mind with this Altima/Maxima controversey;
1) It's not rally a fair comparison unless the Altima and Maxima race on the same day. In these racing vids I've seen, the 3.5 Max toasted the 3.5 Altima Maybe it's just co-incidence that the Altima ran better in mag reviews, and that may be because they had more opportunities to track the Altima, which brings me to my 2nd point.
2) The Altima is a brand spanking new model, so every magazine is going to be scrambling to review it, and therefore there are many more full scale reviews of it. The Maxima, being the last year of the 5th gen, is an also-ran. The motoring press won't give it much of the spotlight. In fact, I beleive it was Car and Driver which gave a 1 page writeup on the 6 speed 3.5, and that was it. They gave much more attention to the Maxima when it was a brand new 2000 model. And you know that the new 6th gen is gonna get mucho press now.

You're right, but you gotta admit that something has to be up when two different magazines(MT was the other one) can get a 5.9 0-60 for the Altima. IIRC, none have gotten a time that low for the Max yet, and it is supposed to be faster.
