I'm back - and I no longer have my Maxima...!! I now have a...

'99 Lexus GS400.

300 horsepower, 325 pounds of torque. 5-speed automatic with manual shift controls on the steering wheel. It's got factory Xenon headlights, DRL, dual fog lamps, heated seats, 3-zone auto climate control, memory seats\mirrors\steering wheel, auto-dimming and heated mirrors (both inside and out), OEM 11-speaker Nakamichi stereo w/ 6-disc, and a whole ton of neat little toys built in... I'm still finding new hidden features every day by reading more of the manual or just playing around.

It will absolutely be staying 100% stock, right down to the tires and wheels.

Speaking of that it doesn't have the optional 17" wheels... only the standard lexus 16" wheels w/ oem 245/60/R16 tires.
But lexus says the tire life is about 30-50% greater on the 16" wheels, and that the ride is smoother... so I'm not complaining.

I've been looking around for a GS4 for 6 months now and finally found this one which was the best deal by far that I had found. Drove 300 miles to St Louis to get it. 31k miles on it, mint condition, has factory warranty till 70k. Sticker new was around 51-52k... I got it for 26.5k

I'm hoping that the resale value on it doesn't drop quite that much while I own it... but I don't think it will. We'll have to see though.

So far I've only raced one car, a 99 Mustang GT 5-speed. He got me off the line by about 2 lengths... by 65 I had him completely reeled in, and by 110 he was several lengths back behind me.

So anyhow.. just thought I would share the good news with you guys, and see what y'all Maxima guys thought of GS4s.

I whooped on a modded GS430 over and over again a while back. He was ahead by several car lengths in 1st gear, I caught up in 2nd gear, and when I hit third gear, see ya.

Seriously though, I think GS's are really nice, classy cars. Lower it, add some nice, big rims, and you are set.

0-60 in 5.8, and 1/4 mile in 14.5 was the magazine numbers I saw. Those are better than the 0-60 in 62 and 1/4 in 14.7 numbers that they got for an 02 6 spd maxima. we all know they cant drive, but even a well driven 02 6 spd will only run door to door, any other maxima will quietly and efficiently get it's *** handed to it

Hey guys...

While performance is fun, to be honest, it wasn't the #1 factor I was focused on when I bought this car. I wanted something that was as reliable, quiet, smooth, comfortable, and well-built as I could afford... and the GS was it for sure.

I have yet to line up with a Maxima, but when I do, I'll let y'all know what happens. I've seen magazines say 0-60 in anywhere from 5.2 to 6.0 and I've seen 1-4 mile in anywhere from 14.3 @ 100 to 14.8 @ 97... so who knows. There are factory freaks and factory slugs as far as any car is concerned.
I can tell you factually that this car is much much faster than the 95 SE 5-speed I used to have, faster than the 02 Altima automatic V6 that I drove, and also faster than the 00 SE 5-speed I test drove.

I haven't driven or ridden in a 02+ 6-speed Maxima yet... so I don't have any idea the outcome. Off the line I wouldn't doubt that a it could take me... this car isn't too awfully impressive off the line. Granted I've never launched it with traction control off and I've never turned-on the power-shift mode on the transmission either. But where this car shines is 2nd gear and above. I'll put it to you this way... on a recent road trip from Knoxville to Memphis, I punched it at 70MPH all the way up to 150MPH where the fuel cutoff hits. It was still accelerating very quickly up until the speed limiter stopped us. I've heard from other GS4 owners that with the limiter removed mid-160s is about the wind-resisted cut-off point.
I had 2 friends in the car, one of which has a moderately modded supercharged mustang GT. He said he was pretty sure the two cars would be neck-n-neck on the highway.

But when it all comes down to it, I picked this car for the total package, not for .1 or .2 tenths in an acceleration statistic.

So if any '02+ 6-speed Maxima owners in the Memphis, TN area would like to meet up and run... I'd be happy to just for $hits an giggles to see what would happen. If you're not much for street racing we can meet at the 1/4-mile track in millington. I'll bring a video camera too.
