can you help with service engine soon?

Hey fellas, the search doesn't seem to be working. I know I have actually seen a scan of MIL procedures before. My light just turned on at 77,000 on my 98 SE. I tried undoing the battery but it comes back. Can you tell me the procedure for resetting to see if it still comes back after doing so? Thanks!

By the way, I found some instructions so I got to the ecu, turned the screw all the way clockwise, waited, and then turned it back. The MIL was now flashing. When I restarted the motor, the lamp lit up again.

What now? Dang, I just payed the car off last month and here we go!! Could my muffler do anything? The outer casing is splitting apart.

You skipped a step.

Turn the srew all the way right, then all the way left. Now the ECU will begin flashing the trouble code through the light. This tells you why it came on in the first place.

Now turn it all the way right and then back all the way left again to reset it.

Thanks for the tip. The light is now off. But somehow I missed seeing the trouble code flashing. Weird. But it seemed as if there was an orange lamp that was on when I turned the screw all the way clockwise and then a tiny bit more. The dumb snap that holds the plate over the ecu broke though. I'm hoping the lamp will stay off--the fuel tank was E when it started, so I hope that was the cause.

if you didn't clear it, run the test again. The codes will stay until cleared. here's some good instructions...
