I will post pics In a couple of hours when I get the pictures back. I hope the freezing rain doesn't start until after. Why am I posting pics of the Aerostar? You'll find out

What happened to your fathers?
I bought my 1988 Aerostar 3.0L cargo van new to tow my CRX-SI SCCA autocross car. Sold the CRX and trailer but still have the van.

My dad doesn't have an Aerostar!
in fact, he will go berserk if you mention it; as an engineer, he thinks it's an abomination due to its ugly shape and horrible aerodynamics. For the opposite reason, he practically idolizes the first gen (dust buster) Chevy Lumina and Pontiac Trans Port vans.

1986 to 1997...
The Aerostar first went on sale in April 1985 as a 1986 model and went out of production in mid 1997 as a 1997 model. The 86 was offered with a 2.3L 4cyl and a 2.8L V-6, both with either a 5spd manual or 4spd automatic. A 3.0L V-6 repaced the 2.8L in mid 1986. The 1987 to 1997 used the 3.0L and also a 4.0L V-6 from 1991 on. The 4cyl was dropped at some point, about 1987. The 3.0L was available with a 5spd manual in some years and without 4WD. 4WD was optional from 1991 to 1997 with the 4.0L. The optional extended length versions were sold from 1989 to 1997.
My 1988 Aerostar cargo van 3.0L automatic with trailer package and 3:73 limited slip rear axle with no cargo or passenger and half a tank of gas with do the 1/4 mile in
18.2 sec. by stop watch. It weighed 3360lbs at the local truck scales empty.
It's scarry for me to know so much about Aerostars. :-0
