so if the shop installed it, shouldnt it be the shops responsibility? how does Hal play into this?

Because everyone sent there money to Hal, who then payed the shop. They bought the kit from Hal.

Well that's not fair...I get pine pollen and red clay in mine (more than with the stock filter).

Actually the kit included installation costs, that was part of the kit, this it's almost like a tangible thing, and since he listed the installation as being included he's responsible for it. It sucks because it's not his shop or anything, but he picked the shop.

Same goes for anything else, if someone gives me money to repair someone's computer and a part is broken, if I bought the part then I have to take it up with the shop who sold it to me or the manufacturer. I can't just slap it back to the person who paid and say it's your problem.

Really sucks, he'd be in much better water right now if he just sold the kit and recommended a shop and let the consumer make the money dealings and decisions regarding the install.

I feel for him since this is not a money making job for him, but a hobby. However, the minute you take people's money it becomes a responsibility. Maybe you could've just released your sources and let everyone else buy the parts and get it installed. You could offer help but nothing more.

So why did you seem concerned/surprised that he's using an aftermarket FPR and FMU? I'm lost...

The shop(s) installed the kits... how much did Hal participate in the installs, I don't know.
wahhh don't throw the amber on my side.. i might catch fire..
neways.. my turbo kit was gonna be a lil different, i was gonna keep the stock fans =D.. i dind't wanna risk over heating. and eventually getting a race radiator that is shorter and move the whole assembly up. flex pipes, oil cooler, possibly dry sump for the oil, and the intake piping was a lil different.. but this will come during the summer. some of the exhaust work will be done by a techie at JIC that i got to know. so this kit will be worth while, and i will not market it until it is "flawless" (if there really is such thing). i only want retun customers for more products, not because something i made broke because of poor craftsmanship. and it may be possible that i would just sell the design to JIC

I think you're missing Jeff's point, Brian. He's stating that Dixit and Kirk knew full well that they will have to repair damaged parts caused by the turbo setup, but they didn't anticipate turbo parts breaking on their own. There's a huge difference there...

parts breaking because of the turbo boosting too high
vs.
parts breaking because of a bad install
EXACTLY, abnd I think brian has seen the point now

Time? Hmmmmm..... I would say one week of taking my time when I had all the correct parts with me.

Money?
Necessity:
- Weld two O2 sensor bungs

Because I don't like how PFI returns the oil:
- New SS oil return line, welding of the oil return adapter onto the upper oil pan, threaded oil return flange on the turbo.

Extra stuff because I'm ****:
- B&M oil cooler, Mocal thermo-sandwich adapter, SS braided lines which I did myself
- FP gauge
- SS fuel lines which I did myself
- Cartech FMU

More bling bling stuff that is not needed:
- ball-bearing turbo
- Blitz SBC iD boost controller
- Blitz DTT DCII turbo timer
My money, went to relocating the oil line . ( thanks kev )

Getting a new down pipe with a flex section.

Into having a heat shield made to cover the y-pipe so nothing else melts.

Having a dump line made for the wastegate, it was shooting hot air at my front o2 sensor

Buying exhaust wrap to try and cool things off

Countless number of gaskets and sheet metal to try and solve the exhaust leak

Most of my time has been spent on the exhaust leak

I had plans for a S-AFC and dyno tuning.. that was shoot down the 3rd week, when I had the oil line moved and down pipe made

Had you spoken to Dixit before you had your install done? It seems that if Dixit had explained his problems earlier, then you might have had the information needed to better question the kit you purchased. If you didn't talk with Dixit before hand, did his initial positive review persuade you to go with this kit?

yes I did, the welds were the biggest problem at that point. He did not know how bad it was and since a different shop was doing mine, the same shop that did hals I felt ok.

Well I should not trust that feeling much more..lol

Sorry to hear about your problems, bags. Stuff like this is the only reason I'm hesitant to boost my car. I guess I only have one nut.
