Help me diagnose my problem, please

When traveling at speeds below 20 mph, I hear a grinding noise...very rotational sound. So I thought it was my brake pads (Brembo Gran Turismo). I checked and it wasn't the case. I decided to remove the caliper and rotor and I still hear it when I run the car on the jack. I suspect it's either my CV joint or axle, what do you guys think. BTW my CV boots are full intact and don't have a single tear, or goop of grease. I have 70K miles on my 97SE and I'm wondering if it's common for the CV joints to go.
thanks,
-Kev

I hope it's just the wheel bearings. I've had these changed once before at 30K miles. My mechanic told me I washed my car too much (hehe...now I don't wash my car at all). I'll change my brake pads, turn the rotors, and drive my car to my trusty independent Nissan mechanic.

Thanks for you quick response to help.
