You could get either a 4th or a 5th gen for that price (but not a 2002)

Personally i like the styling of the 4th gen more , but the 5th gen has a noticably better build quality.

The 5th weighs more, but has more horsepower (and of course and revised body shape, and it has a variable intake which gives it this extra horsepower)

Drive a 99 and a 2000-01 and choose whichever you like i emphasize the 5spd....

now i leave it to more knowledgable members, bring your views forth.
And yes i recommend the maxima over those other Nissans

4th gens are typically faster even though 5th gens have more HP. i think i like the look of the 4th gen a little better. so i'd say look for a 1999 5spd. and you'll have some money left over to play around with if you want to.

i recommend not getting a 2000 over a 1999. i just dont see any benefits to that. if you do decide to get a 5th gen over a 4th gen then the only 5th gen that would be worth it are either a 2002 (if you can find one that cheap) or a 2001 Anniversary Edition. if you cant get either of those, definitely stick with a 4th gen.

Better build quality? I would say the interior of the 4th gen is better looking and is slightly less cheap than the 5th gen. thats my opinion of course. Did you mean something else by the build quality?

I would say get a 98 or 99 5 speed maxima with low miles.
