You'll used the stock y-pipe setup right? How are you'll controlling fuel?

I had a stillen y-pipe and used it for the feed piping.

I am using a cartech FMU to control fuel pressure as well as a walbro fuel pump. Watching all that nonsense with a fuel pressure gauge.

its not so much an issue with the design of any bumper (and we are not going to get into this) any nice size IC is going to cause modifications to the bumper support..

The design on this bumper was extremely poor and doesn't warrant any kind of OEM replacement or fitting, lucking my IC pipes wrap under the fog light holes and not through them, guess my IC was a little big. heh.

All I can say is that if the car keeps running like it did today with having the fender liners coming off every two seconds I will be extremely happy with this setup. I drive like a woman and I will be the first to admit it, boost owns me.

the IC actually didnt affect the stock bumper support, i could have shaved off about 1/4" at about 4 places on the back side and it would have fit, it's the crap design of a bumper that got rid of the bumper support in the first place, it was long gone before the IC ever saw the car.. hence why i need a custom one made to fit inside the bumper, not accomodate my fashionably to large intercooler.

your IC appears to be bigger than mine.. and my IC, Joa's IC, and Kev's IC never cleared under the stock bumper support.. it required cutting

the only similar thing is the u-turn idea, my u-turn and other piping are completely custom to my car and run differently than any kit offered. we are going to jig my kit and make it for sale.

my ic is much larger than most, possibly the biggest on a maxima, but my ic sits about an inch or so lower than where the bumper support would sit. however, if you put a stock bumper up to my car the ic would sit about 2-3 inches lower if not more and protrudes further forward, thus accomodating the m-bumper. if not for the m-bumper and my ic being so big, with the location of the ic, i could use my stock support.

I hope yours is cheaper. I am trying to find a kit that does not use the y pipe, but has a custom exhuast maniifold.

The kit will be cheaper than the other kits, if we ever decide to produce them. Still working out the little details.

But if you want a kit that replaces the whole exhaust manifold, good luck doing that for cheap. I'm researching building a custom manifold for my car that would eliminate the Y Pipe entirely and run 6 individual pipes into a merge collector to feed the turbo. This obviously would yield the most power, but it costs a lot. If a manifold like that were ever to be sold, it would most likely cost $1500 by itself simply due to the complexity. And a kit using a setup like this would be most likely in the $6K+ range because all of the other pipes would need to be pretty crazy too to fit it all under the motor. Lots of custom work.

will a smaller intercooler be offered with the kit for those of us that decide to keep the stock bumper assuming you do start to produce these kits?

Oh yeah, a smaller IC would be included. Jason's massive IC was because of his personal preference. It's overkill for the amount of boost/power his car is running. I think that IC is rated for around 700 hp, I forget.

If we ever do a kit, an IC w/ a 20"x8" core would be about perfect. Maybe even 6" height for better clearance of the stock bumper support.

My car has a stock bumper support, so we'll see what works under there.

i thought so. thanks. I'll definitely be in line for one of these kits assuming you do start to produce them.

DYNO RESULTS

Well, we finally got the car dyno tuned today. Turned the fuel pressure down to 65 psi at full boost, and used the AFC to get 12:1 A/F across the board.

At 7 psi, the car puts down 254 whp and 250 ft./lbs of torque. Not too bad considering the car still has the stock cat and a rather restrictive dual exhaust setup. I'm thinking with the 3" cat going in along with the full custom 3" mandrel exhaust, the numbers would be closer to 275whp.

For comparison, the car put down 165 whp 10 days ago on the same dyno under similar conditions. So we gained 89 whp at 7 psi.

Maybe the car would have better results with 12.5:1 A/F ration.

Maybe, but at this point, better safe than sorry. I'm thinking that the exhaust setup is the biggest restriction right now.

His n/a dyno with CAI/Y-Pipe and so on was 10-15 hp lower than most 5 spd. 4th gen dynos with those mods.

Looks like jeff had the numbers a bit off..

Correct numbers were:

256hp and 254tq at 5psi!!! Baseline dyno of 165hp and 171tq

This is all with my chocking 2.25" crush bent dual exhaust, with a 3" single it should add a healthy 10-15hp and tq, and possibly bump the boost psi up to 7 instead of 5.

Not bad, 91hp and 83tq..

hopefully we'll have time to dyno one more time on friday after all the pipes are coated and the 3" exhaust is in.

Try 11.5:1 AFR when you start cranking up the boost.

It was at 11.5:1 AFR, we were shooting for 12:1, but decided to keep on the rich side for safety sake.
