Wow. I definitely knew about the canadian VLSD 5spd, but had absolutely no clue there was an auto version too. Me want!! I'm 99% sure it would be impossible to find one, but do you have the tranny code?

Actually now that I have gotten pretty much as I am going to from this car I am going to sell it, or part it out and then sell it stock and get a 2k2 and start over

Good Job Jime!!! Every track ***** can appreciate this article.
Do you mind saying how you decreased your weight that much besides the new racing seats?
I have only done 120 lbs of weight reduction which includes, gutted trunk, removed rear seats and front passenger seat. That's it. 120 lbs right there.
What have you removed besides those things?

Regardlesss, I'm looking for a new challenge, I think I have gotten all I can out of this baby without spending some big bucks so I am going to part it out, sell it and move on. Maybe a 2k2 Max, just looking at best options now.

Did the article just exaggerate or did you really shave 350 lbs? If so, how?

There isn't really anything I am trying to hide I just don't remember all the stuff I removed, just started to take it apart and removed anything I didn't deem essential. Even the brake dust shields, which took a lot of work for about 4 lbs savings which I just remembered.
Unsprung weight is your best to spend time on, ie tires, wheels and anything on the suspension that can come off. It gives about an 8:1 weight advantage over sprung weight. Thats why I spent a lot of time deciding on wheels and tires.
There is also a huge difference imho between my 95 and my 97 in weight. The best I could do with almost the same weight removal and exactly the same engine and trans (because the one in my 95 came from the 97) on the 97 was a 13.1 and I did a 12.1 with the 95 that is a HUGE difference and most of it I can only assume came from the weight difference.

The wheels and tires help. My front wheel and slick is 22 lbs total and the rear Millenia wheels and tires are much lighter as well. At the time it was weighed I also didn't have any rear springs just a big rubber bump stop.

I know your Mellenia wheels are about 11lbs, plus you have basically some pie cutter tires on the rear. They probalby weigh like 20lbs each on the rear. The stockers weigh about 38-42lbs on your car with tires. a 20 lbs weight reduction on just ONE wheel/tire is very impressive. You've probably shaved close to 80 lbs in just unsprung weight. I do think that much weight can shave almost a second in the 1/4 mile.
Good job once again Jime. I know you've put a lot of work in your car. But there are probably some little mods you can still do. High 11's are attainable for you when these temps cool down. Port your throttle body. I shaved probably about .1 - .15 off my 1/4 mile just due to the TB. Testpipe can shave another tenth. UDP? AC belt removal? PS belt removal... somehow. Just little stuff to get another tenth or two out of it. Bumper supports... those things are heavy. Also, I wonder if your motor needs more air.
Just a little idea that shaved 2 tenths alone VS my regular cone filter with adapter plate. Worth a try in your car i think. Go to Home Depot and buy the 3" flexible aluminum duct for about $7. Then, a 3" Ferco rubber coupling from the plumbing department. Make sure the hose fits nicely inside the coupling and your cone filter can fit inside the coupling. Every filter is slightly different. I want to see you try it. Also, I used tie wraps to firmly hold down the filter.
My webpage has all the little stuff I've done to my car to get it as fast as I did. I'm sure you already know about all that stuff, but just in case, you can check out my list. I'm always looking for new ideas, that's why I was asking so many questions. Thanks for your help.

Aaron I have tried pretty much all of the weight stuff I can think of, I do have a UDP, Test Pipe, etc, haven't ported the TB though.
Nope I am stopping at 12.1 and going to another car. I probably could wait till the weather cools off and do a couple of other small mods and maybe hit an 11, but I want to try something else. Already started to dismantle it last night so its history.
It has been fun though, I just love the comments at the track and I really got a kick out of the publishers editorial in Modified.
Quote "We also have some wild sedans for those that are looking for a little more room. We have a Viper eating 12-Second Maxima. Can you imagine the look on that Corvette or Viper owner's face when you smoke him in you completely stock-looking Maxima?"
The Publisher owns a Viper.
Last sunday we went to a V8 event and raced against them. When I pulled up to the line the announcer says "Jim Edwards proving you can race whatever you want at the race track."

The MAF screen is the only thing saving you from rabbits, squirrels, rocks, and small birds.
