Portland Me $1.59 for 92 octane, but thats the same price as 87. see the gas station I got to is called Gas For Less and they always have super for the same price as regular. Other places it's up to $1.89 for 92.

It's because of the blackout crap which sounds like BS to me. Also the thing is prices per barrel of gas have dropped form $30 to $28.2...

I think there were some refineries that went offline and a pipeline problem. Remember, the price of crude oil and the price of gasoline are not directly related. Gasoline is an end-product. A lot of people seem to make the same mistake with mortgage rates, they turn on CNBC and see that the Fed lowered rates (that is the fed funds rate--what banks charge each other). Then they wonder how come the mortgage rates went up on the same day? Because, mortgage rates are a market in itself, just like petrol. The 10-yr treasury is what drives mortgage rates. Why?? Because the vast majority of 30-yr mortgages are paid-off in 10 yrs or less. So the moral of the story is the blackout isn't cra* that sounds like BS, at least not imho.

I was watching bloomberg earlier in the week and they said that the they were very surprised of the raise in gasoline prices since the barrel price is DIRECTLY connected to gas prices. They also said that last wek of august or so is when the gas prices will go down...

In Phx, we still have this stipid @ss gas line problem that caused the shortage and basically gas stations had lines 1/4-1/2 mile long It was 3.99 for 91 This was last sunday-tuesday...
3.89 for 89
3.79 for 87

Today its average of 2.49-2.59 for premium, some places I stll see at 2.79+ a gallon

the gas price increase wouldn't have anything to do with all the postwar problems they are having in iraq in order to pump free oil. bombing of the pipeline, bombing of the UN headquarters, continuing guerrilla warfare.
the increase is blamed on a 12 hour black-out of the northeastern grid.

Now if they would just raise the gas tax to about $3 a gallon and relieve income tax it would persuade people to stop buying gas guzzlers and car pool or drive less.
