I see that...I was asking about the width of the bracket really...because not only does it move the calipers closer to the spokes but it also moves them out towards the inside of the rim/further away from the hub....u get me?

It fit under my Cobra 17" rims. It "should" fit under most 17" rims

OK, I've read all six pages of this thread and am still confused as hell.

Will the brackets work with the 300z t calipers, and Z32 callipers? What car is a Z32(Cavelier)?

Does the Z callipers need shaving on the inside or not?

What kind of brake line will I need after the calliper swap?

Will the Ford Mustang Cobra Rotors change the offsets of the rim fitments?

To try and clear your confusion a little
1)Will the brackets work on 300z t calipers and Z32 calipers? What car is a Z32
Yes the bracket will work on a TT Z and a NA Z.
A Z32 is a Nissan 300ZX between the years of 1990 to 1996 which is years you will need the calipers from.

2)Does the calipers need shaving on the inside or not?
That's the magic question. Personally I feel it will need shaving. It's hard to fit a caliper that's design for a 11" rotor over a 13" rotor and still have full pad to rotor contact without a little shaving. But again that's my opinion.

3)What kind of brake lines will you need for the swap.
Many years ago when we (the Max community) were installing the Z32 caliper and Z32 rotors some of us had used the OEM Max brake lines with great success while others may have used the Z32 brakes lines. The ends of the brake line (where it attaches to the caliper) are different on both the Max and Z32 lines. So to answer your question I'm goingto say you have to use the Z32 brake lines. The Z32 calipers is also a common swap for the Nissan 240 guys, and the lines they use in their conversions will also work. Just giving you a little more info to search for.

4)Will the Ford Mustang Cobra rotors change the offset of the rims fitment?
This one I'm not too sure what you're asking. But I can tell you the offset of the Max and Cobra rotors are different. From the previous 6 pages you can see how this set-up will move the calipers futher outward towards the rim.

5)Why did I try to answer your questions?
I can see you are new here and before you get the usual "Do a search answer" I wanted to give you a warm welcome. Besides there might be others thinking the same thing you're thinking. Also this will go in the search archives incase someone else decides to use the search feature.

Thanks for the warm welcome, and thanks for not flaming. I just figuired it would be faster to ask questions on this thread, since its related to upgrade brakes, and braking.

Question: Will it change the offsets?
What I mean by that is: Since the Cobra rotors are larger in diameter, then is the rotors itself thicker in mill? The center part( for lack of words: hat) where the wheel studs go throught the rotors. If the center rotor is thicker then the stock then it will change the offsets a little? No?

As you are aware a brake rotor consists of the rotor itself and the hat portion. A larger diameter rotor doesn't always mean you will have a thicker hat, but I guess it can have a thicker hat by a couple hundred. The thickness of the hat can/will effect the offset but it's probably so minor. In this case, the "height or depth" of the hat portion is different between the Max and Cobra rotors. The Cobra rotor has a shorter/shallower hat compared to the Max.

I've been trying to get intouch with him to see if he would honor his price from the first GD. So until I talk to him I can't positively say what his price will be this time around. I'll stop by his shop on Tues, Wed or Thurs.

I finally got intouch with my machinist today and as I thought he can honor the same price from the first GD on the rings. The prices will be

Two order of rings will be $48 each to your door
Five orders of rings will be $43 each to your door
10 or more orders will be $33 each to your door

All the above prices are base on you paying with paypal. If you decide to mail in a payment (money order, personal check, etc.) you can minus $1 from your payment for each set of rings you want.

BUT

As you know there's always a but. He will not be able to make these until mid Janurary. Sorry that's his schedule.

I will give him a call in mid Jan to see if he's ready for production. When he's ready for production then I'll be ready to accept payment and not until then.

FYI
I will call my machinist tomorrow (Monday) to double check on his schedule. Also if any 5th gen willing to come to PBC Florida for a 1-2 hrs I'll be more than willing to test fit on your car. No cutting or drilling.

Wow! You are fully polishing them Jeff?

I thought I was being unique by polishing the NISSAN and painting the rest black...hehe.

I was out messing with the car today and I am a little worried that the 13" rotor will fit under the wheel. I took a measuring tape and added 3" (stock Max is 10"???) and it was VERY close to the inner part of the wheel, I am not worried about the caliper clearance, but just the inner part. How does yours fit in the cobra wheel jeff? does it go right to the wheel?

Trying to polish them. It's been a pain though. The hardest parts is inbetween the fins. Nothing has fit in there except the grinding attachments. I need a polishing attachment that will fit.

I'll get the p/ns for the brake lines tomorrow. It's snowing up in Seattle so I ain't doing any work on the car now. hehe

yeah no problem dude. So far I have the calipers (freshly rebuilt and painted) the brackets freshly painted, cobra hub rings, I just need lines (hopefully this week) then cobra rotors and pads for the calipers and I am ready...I will post up as it gets closer to let you know, Derrick also wants to roll over and check it out.

OK gents and ladies here's the deal. I just spoke with my machinist and he's ready for production of the rings. Once again here's the price listing for the rings

2 orders of rings will be $48 to your door
5 orders of rings will be $43 to your door
10 or more orders will be $33 to your door

All the above prices are base on a PayPal payment, if you desire to mail in a payment (money order, personal check, etc) you can minus $1 from the above price.

My Paypal account info = mikey_rl@yahoo.com

If you want a set (or as many as you want) of rings as of now you can paypal or mail in $33 for each set you want. Drop me a PM or email and I'll give you my mailing address. This is base on a 10 or more orders just in case we reach that amount. You guys surprise me last time so you never know. As the payments are confirmed cash in my account I will let you guys know were we stand in the group deal. If for whatever reason we dont exceed the 10 or more order you guys will PayPal me the difference base on the final count. So keep in mind you might pay as much as $48 a set or as little as $33 a set for the rings. If you understand and this is ok with you my PayPal account is now open.

Here's another dilemma, how long to keep this GB open for. I know we all would like to pay the best possible price available, but sometimes we all would like our stuff asap. Also I don't know if anyone else might be interested but dont feel like reading all seven pages of this thread, who knows. With that said I'm going to set this GD to end a week from today, Jan 12th 2004 at 11:59pm EST with the possibiliites of it ending sooner without any prior notice solely base on me and how I'm feeling

When ever the GD has ended, the production will begin that same week and hopefully delivered at your door a few days later.

Thanks and drive thru please
MIKE

I'm interested in this... has there been any final confirmation that this setup will work with 5th gens, and if so, any sources for the 300ZX calipers and necessary adapters/brackets?

If this is a decently cheap route for a BBK with stock 17x7 5th gen SE wheels, then I'm all over this... F*CK the 2K's warping rotors

Nevermind, just read the previous page... you're still looking for someone to test-fit a 5th gen. Shame I'm nowhere near Florida, 'cause I'd love to help
I'm especially interested in fitment with stock 17x7 5th gen SE wheels (as I posted above)...

This ain't gonna work with the stock 5-gen wheels. 4 piston calipers take up ALOT of room.

is it that 2 sets of rings will do all 4 wheels?
Jeff do you still have the brackets available?
if we do this on all 4 wheels, will we have to upgrade our master cylinder?
Is it possible to fit the cobra calipers instead of the z32 this way there is no rotor overlap?

2 rings do just the front wheels.

I will have to arrange to have more brackets made.

You don't do all 4 wheels. At least not at this time.

Cobra calipers. It might be possible but the Cobra calipers are 2 piston vs 4 piston. But they do look to have longer pads. You wanna make some brackets to fit them??

After all this time these are interesting replies.

As stated, one set of rings consist of 2 individual ring for the front wheels only.

I have my own opinion when it comes to the master cylinder. I remember back in the days when we first started installing the Z32 calipers some were reporting that their brake pedal seemed a little mushier and their pedal effort was decreased. There's a mathematical reasoning for the decrease in pedal effort but I'm unable to remember at this time. But on the same hand others have installed the Z32 calipers with no problems what so ever. We all have different oipinions on what considered mushy and what's not.

Again as stated I don't see why the Cobra calipers can't be fabricated to fit on our application. It would just require someone to put the time and effort into creating such a bracket. The reason I went this route is because for whatever reason the Cobra rotors didn't work (mainly clearance issues) I would have used the Z32 calipers and rotors like countless others and call it a day.

While I have your attention I would like to say one more thing. We all understand that these brackets and rings have not been put through a proper series of development and testing. We tried to make this a simple bolt on set-up but you still "might" be required to do some modification to the brake system components (drilling, cutting, grinding, etc) So no need to post "my bracket don't fit" "I'm getting a knocking noise" "my brakes are wobbling" etc. Even though it's a simple concept and upgrade, please be aware of what you are buying. These items were designed by enthusiates like yourself without any major funding from big coperations. I'm not going to open a can of worms and mention any legal stuff (oopps too late) so please ladies and gents I can't stress it enough, be totally aware of what you're buying and what you're getting into.

This was bought to you by a PM I just recieved, and for the record I totally understand your concerns

MIKE

Thanks kandiman, i just wanted to make sure a set was 2 rings maybe i over read that in previous posts. Jeff , the 1999+ cobra calipers are 4 piston , but my main concern like candiman said is mushy pedal feel from not having a big enough master cylinder
