Which MAGNAFLOW??

I have decided to give up trying to obtain a Apexi WS because trying to fit it all into my criteria has proven useless.

However, I do want to create an exhaust that will provide some what the same results, if not even better. I understand the magnaflows have a very deep subtle sound and that is what I am aiming for.

I think so far my setup will be: Budget Y Pipe / Resonated Budget B Pipe/ Resonated Test Pipe / Magnaflow Muffler.

I am stuck however which magnaflow to purcahse.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Best Regards,
JP

I ordered one of these .. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/southwes...ore/14829.html

Should be getting it installed on monday. Its IMO the best looking SS muffler for the price. (I'm assuming you have a 4th gen) If you drive a 5th gen just go with a dual tip.

i have this one
but the damn thing hangs too low, granted the canister is 6 inches in diameter. i'm thinking about getting another magnaflow but different in diameter or get the 5 x 8 ovals.

ch13f:

We have very similar taste, I also was contemplating that muffler while looking though the site, but failed to mentioned it before posting on the fourm.

However I am still very curious of the sound it will produce, not that I am all about just the way my exhaust sounds, but i consider it a big factor in a purcahse.

Do you think I am right to assume similar results can be accomplished with the setup I am contemplaing running: Budget Y / Resonated Budget B Pipe / Resonated Test Pipe / Maganflow Muffler vs Budget Y / Apexi WS.

Fosgate Fan: What is the overall tone of the muffler, and if you decide to change mufflers, which magnaflow are you considering? (Pic)

Thanks.

JP

love the sound, kinda rumbles a bit while idling, nice deep (not harsh) sound all the way to 2500 rpm. haha i like driving through underpasses and listen to the exhaust bouncing off the walls after 2500 it quites down a bit and the sound of the engine tends to take over. i'm thinking about getting another magnaflow similar to Happyricefob's.

However, i do not know if the sound of the race series are the same as the street series. i'll see if i can get a sound clip up.

I have the Magnaflow 14827 for about a month now and I love it. It has a nice deep growl when accelerating but besides that the thing is completely quiet, really close to stock. I actually want a louder exhaust but i dont think i can take the drone they might put out. My exhaust had about 2 in a half finger gap from the bumper so I put in new rubber hangers which were abit smaller and now it is close to the bumper. Looks great. I highly recommend the exhaust for the price and if you want a quiet exhaust. I am currently running a budget y pipe with it and still seems really quiet. Hope this helps your decision.

race series has 2.5" inlet
street series have 2.25" inlet

not like it matters too much for NAs...

happyricefob:

How does the Muffler sound? Also is the Budget B Pipe 2.25 or 2.5 and do you think there is a big difference between the street and the race series?

Thanks for all the help everyone.

my magnaflow had about 5000mi on it from boston. some parts were rusted. it came off from a 96 max. i had a little bit of fitment issues. i didn't connect my muffler to my b-pipe fully for awhile. it drones bad from inside and outside. but after i purchased a exhaust gasket from OEM nissan, the sound was greatly reduced. from inside it's nearly stock. i also had my friend revvin for so i can stand outside and hear it. it's not too showy, it provides a deep sound from which doesn't attract too much attention.

i also have budget y and test pipe. the sound didn't change tat much. i don't think it'll matter too much if you don't have any leackage on any parts of ur exhaust system. if so, buy a gasket.

Get one like that but make sure it's bigger. A small one like that will not sound good. Get one that is the size of the stock muffler body and don't get one of the round cannister ones...

there's nothing wrong with the canister style. might be ground clearance issues. my muffler got battle scars from steep driveways and insane speed bumps

Oval mufflers just sound meaner to me. Most of the fart cans you hear out on the streets are cannister mufflers. Give them a nice big oval muffler and it won't sound like ****. The one happyricefob has is just as bad, the thing is just to small to actually "muffle" the sound. I bet you that if that muffler was maybe 2x as wide it would sound much better...

I dont get the difference between the 4827 and the 4829 other than a double wall. Is the double wall quieter?

Also go to www.magnaflow.com and listen to their sounds...the vr6 gti sounds really good the only v-6 on their site. I talked to magnaflow and he said that the 5x8 oval in 18" length..looks like in universal format all I can find is 14" though. So cool.

no. it does not sound like a fart can at all. it actually sounds nearly stock. from inside, you can barely hear the muffler except a bit of droning from 2,500-3,000rpm, which is not too noticiable at all. from outside, the muffler doesn't sound too showy enough to get attraction, and not too loud over stock. this magnaflow is street series, the inlet is only 2.25". the muffler itself is well-resonated.

if you don't believe me, PM me for a sound clip.

So then being that the muffler itself is "Well- Resonated" would it be some what of a better decision to go with a un-resonated B-pipe, to help aid the tone of the exhaust? or will that produce a buzzing?

Thanks.

The single / double wall refers to the tips. I have 14830, which has the single walled tip (it curls back a little). I would get a double-walled tip, it looks much cleaner.

You want actually soundclips of a magnaflow on a max, then click...
http://www.xpert-networking.com/muff...ps/muffler.htm

I have the stillen y-pipe, and a 18" resonator with a dual 3" magnaflow. You'll find several others there as well.

Would a 3in Inlet be to big? Also should I go with a resonated or non resonated b pipe.

Thanks.

Considering only the turbo guys run 3" yeah its a bit much. Some the the supercharged guys are still using 2.5" so dont worry much about goin larger, you dont really need it.

As for the resonator, well do you want alot of noise? Are you planning on getting a y-pipe? If you have (or gonna have) a y-pipe GET A RESONATOR it will be too damn loud. Unless you like that sort of thing Mine is resonated and its too damn deep, WAY too deep.

That is what I am refering to. When you say your exhaust setup is way to deep, would it help any if you did not have a resonated b pipe? I mean would it "balance" the exhaust tone any?

Also I was thinking that inlet was to large, but thanks for clarifying it for me.

Will it balance it, well to be honest I think the deep part will somewhat do away (actually its drone) but be replaced with BHAAAAAAAAA!
instead. My car isnt loud on the outside, just deep on the inside. It can however get anoying.

The link I provided in a earlier post in this thread has what mine sounds like. The part throttle one is from 1500-2200rpms thats were it drones if you have headphones you will kinda hear a little better how deep it goes.

If you dont get a y-pipe however, you dont need to worry about drone much. IF you dont want much noise, get a Dynomax 3chamber muffler. It gives just a slight bit of tone but no drone or anything.
