insulation for the intake

I posted the same question on the 4th gen discussion board, so please don't mind...
Is there something out there you can wrap around the tubing for the air intake to keep it cooler?

Buy some on ebay, you'll save money. Just get a small 15'(smallest there is I think)...

I don't really think it would help at all. The air that it puls in is still going to be the same temp.

Yeah, but if the tubing is hot, I am sure by the time it hits the throttle, it will go up in temperature. I think the difference would be minute, but if it is not too expensive or time consuming it may be worth while.

The air travels so fast and the distance it travels is so short that it's doubtful it gets heated up. You could buy some of that alluminum foil looking thingy that keeps pipes cool...

That is exactly the kind of material I was thinking of. Do they have a certain name for it?

Not sure what the name is. Home Depot might have something like that. I know they have a heater/washer hose that is made of that. It's 3" so it would be great but it costs like $30...

i used a reflective piping wrap that i got from lowes. i just wrapped the entire midpipe from throttle body to maf. i tested my air temp with diagnostic software and found that back to back it was always about 5-10 degrees cooler but when the car was moving the difference was even greater. i didnt feel any difference but the temp difference was there.

Thanks, Sloppy,
I knew I am not crazy, trying to do something that has no benefits at all. I never thought this would have a turbo effect all of the sudden, but it should be beneficial to the engine.

the nice thing about the stuff i bought was that it was self adhesive on the back and even in the summer heat under the hood, it never melted. i figure anything to help cooler air in the summer with a hybrid intake would help. it looks pretty cheesy but it works.
