anyone here know how to use a remote starter

I bought a remote starter to use for a compression test. I was just wondering if anyone here knows where I am suppose to hook up the cables to. I hooked one up to the starters positive and I hooked up another one to the batterys ground. Nothing worked. Then I hooked up the cable that I hooked up the the batterys ground and hooked it up to what I believe is the neg. on the stater. I pushed the button and the car cranked but I would have thought the car would have started. One thing I forgot to mention is that I was just trying to start the car with out the key. All spark plugs and stuff are on the engine. I am just trying the get a feel for the remote starter. Anyways I tried taking the remote starters cable that I hooked up to starters positive connection/cable and it burn the **** out of my finger So my question is am I hooking it up right or is the reason why the engine cranks but doesn't start is because I hooked the remote starter incorrectly?

First of all, I would stay away from the starter wires period!!! These wires have alot of voltage in them. For remote starting a car with auto transmission, the car is started electronically by tapping into the ignition switch where the starter wires are. For us Nissan owners, our cars must have two signals going to the starter in order for the car to start. I see that you have a 2K. In this case, since these cars have a chip in the key, a transponder unit must be used (with your key code) so the car can recognize the chip since there is no key in the ignition. Installing a remote starter takes some time, because you must take in consideration of installing other signals and relays, such as the brake pedal (shift lock) for transmission (if somebody attempts to drive off with car, car will shut off when gear is shifted). I would take some time and refer to somebody who know's exactly what they are doing. I hope I somewhat helped you out, though.

remote starter for COMPRESSION TEST...
i don't think he's referring to an alarm remote start.

it's probably a wire w/ 2 clips and a push button. it basicallys jumps the ign switch and spins the starter from under the hood so u can read compression..

you would hook it up from + from the battery to the + to the starter and push the button to bump the engine so it'll turn and give u a compression reading.

Thats exactly right, I was referring to push button remote starter. Sorry about the confusion. I actually thought MIXXMAX was talking about the same thing because when he mentioned the imobilizer I figure that was the reason why the Remote Starter wasn't able to start the engine and only crank it. Thanks guys for the replys. I apprecite the help. DanNY now I know what I did wrong. Thanks

OK, now I see what you were talking about. Yeah, I was confused at exactly what you wanted to do with starting the car remotely. Thanks for clearing that up, and ignore my previous reponse.
