hi- I am going to try that new poor-man CAI tomarrow after classes. I was wondering if there could be any gain by hacking up the crazy *** bends in the stock air inlet piping and making it way more direct. Or would the gains be so insignificant that it would be a waste of my time? Here is the real question that I have. You know the 2nd resonator between the ir box and the throtle body. Well I dont have 65 dolars to get the part from the real CAI to take that resonator out. I was wondering if any one who has taken it out know what it looks like inside. Would there be any way to open it up and yank out any thing in there that is designed to reduce noise and just make it a hollow box? That way Id get "most" of the bennifits of the 65 dollar part for free. Thanks guys !!!

The 2nd resonator serves two purposes. One is to reduce noise and the other is for the 3 vacumn lines. The resonator box is actually circular on the inside except for a 1" X 2" port inside which vents vacumn gases from the heads and to form a resonator. How do I know it's a resonator? Because when I removed it when I had my HKS intake on the noise level increased. Removing the resonator and fabricating the parts would be a pain. I used some 3" metal piping supplied in my HKS kit which I didn't use. I then bought some extra vacumn hose and plastic T's and rerouted stock vacumn lines into this pipe.

I suggest that you just save your money and buy the Place Racing parts. The install will look far more professional. Fabricating a pipe would require 3" silcone hoses, 3" pipe, and attachments to hook up the vacumn lines. I looked at Home Depot and the auto store and nothing looked like it would work well. You would probably end up spending $40 just to make something work and chances are it would look half-assed and have vacumn leaks which will make you car run like crap. I suggest you go ahead and do the rest of the intake mod and save your money until you can afford the part.
