The 2k is gonna cost as much used as a 4-yr old as a new Maxima, not cheap. In 2k1 the 530 and 525 were available. Prior it was the 528. A 97 costs under 20k, but was great technology at the time, and has stuff that Maxima does not have in 2k4, like 9 mph bumpers, all aluminum suspension, RWD, tight-a** steering (borrowed from the e36 M3), yada yada yada. You really have to drive the different years to truly know.

I don't know what your situation in life is, but if you can afford it, go for it. Some of us plan these things out for 5 years before we get one. You cannot be cheap if you buy a BMW. Any service you need will make you feel like a millionaire, or wish you were one. Good luck!

I know a couple people who have the 528i and they love 'em. But, you definitely pay big $$ for BMW service.
