Big Decision!!!

Well guys it is finally my time to get a car. I have been on this board for 4 years and 2 years as a member since my dad owns a 99 maxima. I love the car, but now i have some decision to make on getting my first car. My dream car would be a 02'-03' 6 speed maxima but i just can't afford that, so the choice come down to two cars.

97'-99' maxima or

04' altima 2.5s

I know the altima is a 4cyl, but its also a new car. But i also love the maxima. Tell me what you guys think. Keep in mind i am 17 and this is my first car. Oh and its only between these two cars, lol.

since you are 17, go with the older car... unless you don't mind paying insane insurance premiums.

you can get a really good 4th gen that would cost considerably cheaper than a brand new altima.

I don't quite get the choices... a 2004 altima 2.5 is what, 19k? You could get a 2002/2003 Maxima for that easy...

With the incentives you can get them for 16-17k, I would say stay away from the 02/03 Max (plus those selling for low prices are almost all previous rentals with 25-30k miles). Your insurance would be outrageous at that age on an 02/03, I would choose a low mileage 98-99 SE if I were you.

yeah, but the altima would be brand new. Either he gets a new car which is around ~18k or an old car around ~10k. Big price difference.

I dont know in the area you live, but in my area 02-03 maxs are going for the price of a new alty 2.5S alllll day long, and yes, you can find 6sps, and no, they are not rentals. I found a spankin new 03 max with 8000miles, 6spd, loaded, black on black, SE, leather, bose, mroof (****es me off) for like 19K, and im sure you can knock off another 1500 off that. Deals are out there, you just have to find them...

97-98 SE with low mileage. Give your self room to work up if u call altima a work up...No advantage with altima except a new looking car. Some may say it looks better, the difference in price you can use to make the maxima 3 times as good looking

You are 17 man. The worst thing you could do is get a brand new car, unless mommy and daddy are paying for it. Its your first car, so I'd say just get an older car that you would might beating on, because believe it or not, 17 year olds cannot take care of cars.

I would go with a 4th gen 98-99 . It is a reliable six cylinder workhorse. You can get one at a good price and mod it to your content and make it look real good. Just my two cents.

Does it look like this 17 year old can't take care of his car? I think not.

Go for a 4th gen man, and try to find one with low mileage, preferably a 97-98 fed spec. Then get I/Y/E. You'll be happy with it.

just say no to the altima.....the 2.5 has proven to be a problematic engine with nothing but recalls and to compound the issue, the worst resale value compared to the v6 or 02-03 maxima

I would not buy a new Altima. Resale is pretty bad on new Nissans. Buy Hondas and Toyotas new. Buy Nissans used. In that case, go for the Maxima.

Hey on a sidenote, how much do you pay for your insurance on the max? Im 18 with 2 tickets and i pay a lil over 200 a month, more than my car payment

And yes, get what you want. Also, ever sat in a new alty? Yeah, that should make your decision to go with a max...
