are you auto or manual? you can install it yourself, but if your manual, you'll have to bypass the clutch switch and ALWAYS park it in neutral...ALWAYS or when you start it, you'll send your car scooting away.

where are you located?

Thank god, i have an auto (weird saying that). I'm not that mechanically inclined. I know how to install sound systems and little small stuff. What kind of wiring is involved?

I dont know why everyone thinks you can't safely put a remote starter on a manual. It's just a matter of a few more wires and maybe some relays. Maximas come stock with a neutral sensor built into the tranny and the wire goes to the ECU so it's not that hard to get to.
I have a 5speed and a remote starter that I installed myself and it will NOT start if I leave the car in gear. My clutch switch also still works like normal when not remote starting (still have to push in clutch pedal when starting with key).

OpTi - if you've done some sound stuff, you should probably be able to do this. It's a little more involved, but not hard; just a matter of finding the right wires and you can find them online usually (search on here and you'll be able to find them)

Hey Craig, I was looking on your site. It's a great site because it is very informative. I have no problem doing audio stuff but this looks a little more complicated. All these wires and and ECU and Tach stuff got me scared. What's a good price to get a remote starter installed professionaly (sp) ? Thanks.

Thanks for the compliments on the site.

I couldn't really tell you a price for the install, just call around some local stereo/alarm places and see what they say. I'd stay away from places like Best Buy and try to get somewhere that's more focused on car electronics.

There is some more risk involved (messing up sensors, ECU, starter, etc) but it's not all that bad. But if you aren't confident in doing it, then definitely take it to an installer.

I got my remote starter for $150 installed at BrandsMart here in KC (a local car/home electronics store). It took them about 3 hours. I've had it about a year, and no problems - it works great!
