looks like 5th gen has taken over

When coming into the forum, judging by the number of posts and numbers that are viewing at any given time, the number of 5th gen owners has surpassed the 4th gen. That's cool. But in a way it's rather surprising that a car whose median age is probably around 7 is at the end of the curve. Maybe the forum is not representative of the typical Maxima owner (4th gen), but that's kinda a short life-cycle imho. Then again, even on the roads there are probably nearly as many 5th gens. Where the heck have the 4th gens been retired to, and why? my .02

You just wait for us 3rd gen'ers to come back.

(or were we even "there"?)

Hmm...

Makes sense. Newer and slower car needs more modding to be as fast as the 4th gens.

5th Gen owners don't out weigh the 4th Gen owners.. its just that 4th Gen Owners now fall into two categories..

Category 1: Newbies asking dumb and newbie questions in the 4th Gen Forum
Category 2: 4th Gen Owners who have retired to the Off Topic Forum or just dont' come to the org anymore.

The General Forum has more 5th Gen owners.. but the 4th Gen owners are still around and about

I know that I peruse 4th gens only once ina while. I go to the audio forum, regional (DC area), and OT most of the time. I see what people mean by the division in 4th gen owners. Most of the info is out there, and with few exceptions (such as the manumatic tranny mod discussed in early summer) not much new is around for the 4th gen, mechanically speaking. Visually there are mods, but less and less guys are looking to dump "show" money in to a 5-9 year old car, which most likely has significant mileage on it.

I know that when I bought my 4th gen I had certain mods in mind. Money-no-option, I would do more, but I have speant just about all that I plan to spend on it. Sadly enough, I am now tiring of the Max, but I plan to keep it at least until it is entirely paid off.

I've noticed the content of the Fourth Gen forum has changed. It used to (years ago) contain alot more general maintenance info, probably due to DBM. It seems like a lot of it lately has been lots of old rehashed stuff and things like glowing keyholes or whatnot.

Or it could be that people are getting tired of being flamed by what appears to be two individuals (that will go unnamed for this thread) who appear to have no joy in their lives, and get their rocks off by insulting others. It kind of defeats the purpose of "community" getting bashed every time you pose question or have a comment. Personally, I read a lot more than I post, and have not been attacked by either of the individuals about who I speak. I think it is shameful that these individuals are allowed to flame daily by the thread while contributing little or nothing of positive value. I am not debating whether people post the same questions over and over, or if other questions/comments don't hold up logically. To me it's a matter of common courtesy. I find myself spending less and less time in the 4th gen forum because of these individuals. Just my personal opinion.

well i think most of the 4th genners have moved on. You see someone post about selling their car and leaving the forum every week and its always a 4th gen, never a 5th or 3rd really. 5th gens are still new and fast so people are either jumping on them or moving to other cars. I dont think 3rd gens have ever ruled

All the sold 4th gens are going to newbs that dont know what they are doing so they ask all these questions.

I have a 99, but I rarely if ever post in the 4th gen forum. Yup, lots of us in OT, or the other forums. We're all pretty well "learned" on the 4th gen and don't feel like answering questions for the 4000th time when it's all covered in the FAQ or by searching. I post more in the 6th gen forum since I'm interested in seeing what the new Max can do, and I also post in the 5th gen forum since there is still a lot of development on that car as far as mods and interesting posts. Most of the 4th gen posts are "why is my CEL flashing". blah...search already.

What are you talking about? It's already boostable You just have to spend the money to get the **** done. I'm not going to wait for some "bolt on" turbo or S/C kit. I'll make my own path. Sure, it'll cost more, but I'll have a better drivetrain that most, and I'll take satisfaction in the fact that my vehicle is totally original in it's mods...

I have a 97. I've done nearly all of the significant performance mods except for MEVI & HID lights. I've never been one to jump in on cases of whether one should buy clear or smoked Altezzas or this and that about HIDs. I got a lot of help on serious tech concerns and did my best to help others when questions were posted. However, it seems like there are fewer and fewer interesting questions that beg answers. I'm with Steve on the CEL questions. Go buy a frickin' manual. Go pick up an FSM.

I love my 4th gen. In fact, the only thing I want to do now is replace my Wildwoods with Brembos.

Sprint nailed it and I'm category 2 but the above is a major reason why.

I own both a 4th gen and a 5th gen, but I consider myself a 4th gener. Of course, the 4th gen is my usual daily driver and the one I mod. The 5th gen is nice, but the 4th gen is fun. Even back when it was stock it was more fun to drive than the 5th gen.
