It'll be just fine for the tank. A lot of *cough* stupid *cough* people run 87 all the time without severe problems. All it means is your knock sensor will be working a little harder detecting knocks and pings from your engine.

I actually use to run 87 before I knew any better for about a year, and I've had no problems with my car. Then again, I never heard the engine knock at all.

No problem at all. Fill it up when the needle is just above half with super and you're good to go. Premium is "recommended" and I think Nissan even says 91 octane or something like that, don't feel like getting out the manual. I've been getting my 93 on Tue lately when it's only 1.619, only 7 cents more than regular.

Hah, 92 octane is all we can get up here and average price is 1.72/gal. Over the summer I think I bought a few tanks at 2.15/gal. I only have put 92 in my car. It runs great at 167k.

Btw, in the long run, it pays to use 92 octane gas. At least, imo.

Maybe get some octane booster just to help it out some?

Max's will run fine on 87

It's the middle of winter for christ's sake! If it was 100 degrees out or something, I would be a little worried about a VQ on 87, but it'll be fine. If you're really worried about it, just don't drive it too hard. Octane rating is just the detonation resistance, but that's why you have a knock sensor. Honestly, if a VQ can withstand a 60hp nitrous shot, I think it can take a tankfull of 87.

disclaimer: I understand that nitrous is safe when used properly, and that nitrous itself is not flammable, combustible or explosive. It's only an oxidizer which intensifies and accelerates combustion with gasoline.

They're just jokin 504, don't woorry...
You'll be fine. On a stock engine, octane is mostly a decision of personal choice, from what I can gather. I believe you're only supposed to use a high enough octane that you don't get detonation - but that's just me. I've never used anything but regular in my vehicles (including my 300 horse Stang), and never had any problems... But I don't wanna open up a can of worms here...

I notice they didn't mention any FACTS. Octane booster is crap and only boosts octane by tenths of an octane point. For some strange reason they are allowed to call one tenth of one point a whole point.

Go get some toulene and mix it with your gas it should save your oxygen sensors. It will boost up octane a considarble amount. I think the most you can do is a ratio of gas 10:3 toulene

It doesnt. It helps with seals in the fuel pump to the injectors, sometimes Xylene can be harsh, just helps out. ATF can work too, but I prefer MMO.

you can dump pure Xylene in the gas tank, but it can be rather harsh on some of the rubber seals threw out the engine and fuel system. You use MMO to act as a lubricant (if you will). ATF does the same thing. Not something normal people do though

oh yeah, SXN, I meant ATF as in Automatic Transmission Fluid, not some other brand or something. I normally just use some standard valvoline. (not in the maxima, in the the mustang).
