an extra sweatshirt. As long as you dont keep going back into the warm house it shouldn't be too much of a problem

just get a small space heater. if the garage has a door then you're all set to go...plug it in and it'll get warm in like 5 min. no propane no mess...just don't spray anything that might light up w/ the heater on.

i suggest a heater from home depot, target or walgreens. i prefer electric just because it lowers any chance of doing something stupid. Unless your garage is already vented for a wood burning stove or something, i would just go electric.

If you want to stay warm propane is the only way to go IMHO for a garage. I have tried three electric space heaters (1500 watt, this is the maximum that is allowed) and they really don't keep things comfortable on really cold days. If you get a space heater make sure it is one that you would be comfortable with in the house, this is probably where it will end up.

I tapped into the natural gas line for my water heater and installed a space heater from Home Depot. 30,000 btu with a thermostat and fan for about $150.

Excellent!

To restate my post, I was implying that an electric heater would not cut it and that some other form of gas etc would have to be used.

I also took the precaution of nailing 6, 2x75 watt, 8 foot flourescent lights to the ceiling. An extra 900 watts of heat right there! Planning HVAC, maybe this spring.

The only way to keep warm is forced air...so you need to get a propane heater with a blower. Just make sure when you use propane inside a bit just keep a door open a tiny bit.

KEROSENE I have no idea what type you used but we had one about 3' tall 18" around that that thing would make you sick if you stayed out in the garage too long. Wicked headachs also. I'll never use one again. We couldn't give it away and I think we payed $300 for it.

Propane is the way to go.

I got one of those massive Honeywell baseboard electric heaters (1500W), it doesn't work for garages.

You will definitely need forced air, so you can direct the heat to where you're working at. Otherwise, prepare to be cold.

You can get something like this one in either Natural Gas or LP/Propane.
Space heater - $150.00
Attic insulation - $35.00
Warm place to work - priceless.

As seen in my garage!

Electric heaters suck. I bought one at Sears and it was absolutely worthless. My work lights put out more heat.
