tire recommendation
#1
Hello. I'm new to this forum so please excuse me if this question has already been brought up.
I have a '99 Maxima SE with 16" stock rims. I already replaced my original tires with Dunlop 225/50/16. I hate them and I need to get a new pair.
I have two questions:
a) I know the size a currently have about a 2% smaller diameter than the original size of 215/55/16. I would like to compensate the added milage by putting 225/55/16. Anyone ever do this before and how do they feel about it. I haven't had any problems so far with the size I have currently and I have already done 35,000 miles on them.
b) is there any type of tire someone would recommend for all weather year round use in PA. I need something that that is good for cornering and speed but also good for wet weather and snow. I saw the BF Goodrich g-force KDWS and thought they looked good. Anyone have any suggestions or what you think of these tires?
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

I have 16" aftermarket wheels with 225/50/16 Michelin Pilot XGTZ4 tires. This is an ultra high performance, all-weather tire rated for 149 mph+. The sidewalls are stiff, so they help me corner very well. I can run at high speeds all day, and not worry about heat dissipation. I'm on my 3rd set of them now, and each of my 2 first sets lasted about 55,000+ miles. (My car has 163,000 miles on it!) I love 'em.
As long as the OD of your tires stay within + or - 3% of stock, you're OK, so don't feel like you have to go with 225/55/16s to "compensate" for the mileage you drove with your 225/50/16s... Good luck.
