Help from Place Racing Intake Owners

I've been debating for awhile whether I should get the Place Racing Intake or not. I've heard many good things from members here about them, but my only question/concern is the filter they use for it. Cattman's site and Custom Maxima sell them with the Monsterflow air filter, but I've heard stories about foam filters and how overtime, they can degrade and foam particles can eventually be sucked into the engine.

So with that been said, my question is if its possible to use another filter, aside from monsterflow? I guess K&N is an option, but I was wondering if you could combo the PR intake pipe with the JWT popcharger? I think the JWT is bigger than the monsterflow, but could it be fit to work? (aside from cutting a bigger hole)

I had the same dilemma as you. I also have the JWT but it is too big and wont fit anyways. The sloution i used is I bought a $20.00 SPW filter from www.southwestautoworks.com. The filter fits inside the fender well and works great. The filter is not listed on there website that I can think of so I would suggest calling them or leaving an email about it.

ya i would just buy a k&n if you are worried, i bought my prcai prior to them changing the filter and have a k&n and am nothing but happy with that filter, oh and the pipe is the only thing that goes through the hole, you put the filter on after from the underside of the car

You can definately buy a K&N. I just installed a PR CAI on my brother in laws Maxima. The fitment was tight and I grabbed my thinner K&N and put it on so the fender lining would go back over it easier.

i say go for bomz cai. make sure buy the one with the REAL K&N filter. both intake serves the same function, one is cheaper, one is more expensive.

according to jime, bomz cai intake piping is slightly lighter than place racing. and according to me, bomz cai intake piping is not made out of cheap plastic.

you can also twist the hoses along the intake piping to adjust the direction of the filter. just make sure the hose clamps are secured. eventually it'll sit away from the fender by a good amount of distance.

Yeah, I think I need to cut the hole open a bit more. I just was sick of doing it, so I slapped it on and pushed the lining on and bolted it up and told him "good to go"

Whats up with these ebay CAI's? anyone ever got one? hehehe

adding an extra hose for piping protection is always a plus it'll protect ur CAI pipe rubbing against the car.

Good idea, on my VE I used the plasticy stuff that WSP gives you with the kit. On his I just used some old wire loom around the hole and it sticks to it well.

SPW filter.........what kind of material is it made of? Is it similar to the JWT? Do you have any pics of this filter?

HappyRiceFob do you know if they make the bomz CAI for 5th gen's (02-03's)?

I just used a 3A filter from Pep Boys-$20. Looks like the above filter. Works great. For the hole in the fender, there is Big rubber seal w/ a lip in the stock air box, take that out and it will fit perfectly plus look good. Cuting the hole perfectly w/ a circular blade isnt as crucial as people make it out to be either, we drilled a small hole and cut the rest out w/ wire snips....
