Hey guys! Just got a Max. (pics)

I'm the proud new owner of a 1999 Maxima SE Limited. I love it's power, handling, looks, and comfort. Here's a link to some pics of it fresh on the dealer lot (It was well taken care of, it looks brand new!)

Planned mods:

Soon-
FSTB
CAI

Later-
RSB
Y-pipe

Maybe (haven't decided yet)-
exhaust
front clear corners and red/clear tails

Congrats! Wow, car does look exceptionally well taken care of for a '99. Look at that seat! no fat ppl crushed down the side of the seat, it looks hardly worn at all. Looks like a nice car.

Looks great!!!! how many miles & how much $ did you pay for it? What kind of dealership did you get it from, a locally owned one?

I got it with a 3 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty for $10,500 from Import One. It is a locally owned dealership in Baton Rouge, LA. I like them because they are really picky about which cars they have in their inventory.

It's just shy of 60,000 miles. An older lady apparently traded it in for a Ford Expedition (yuck!) just before the factory warranty period was up.

As my car gets more modded, it's always nice to see a very clean stock maxima. Especially a SE. Nice car!

Actually, it's a pewter-silver color. I don't know why it shows up as beige on the pictures... I thought it was beige before I went to go see it too.

I've been lurking around here for awhile reading up and researching before I bought, so I'm kind of a newbie and kind of not.

Oh, and about the auto... believe it or not I wanted an auto this time. I've driven manuals all my life, fun as hell on the open highway but I'm just getting tired of the constant footwork in the bumper-to-bumper commute. Call me lazy, or maybe I'm getting old (I'm only 22, so I doubt it ), but it's nice to just be able to enjoy driving and cruising no matter where you're going and what the traffic conditions are.

BTW, my previous rides were a 1991 Honda CRX Si and a 1997 Honda Prelude Type SH. Yeah, yeah, I can hear the groaning from here, but they were both actually really good cars. I didn't do any "rice" mods to them... everything was performance only. In the the case of the CRX, I did an engine swap, I/H/E, and full suspension (yes, everything). The Prelude was stock except for a K&N drop-in and a rear sway bar. I sold the CRX and traded the Prelude in for the Max. Although I loved them I don't regret it at all. The CRX was faster, but there is no comparison with the Max when it comes to comfort. And the Prelude was about as fast, handled better, but just didn't have the room I needed (backseat only for people you hate). I'm looking forward to many happy years with my new Max.

How do you compare the Maxima to the Prelude as far as performance?

Ive driven both and the prelude is a little more sporty but for what you gain in the maxima its well worth the small loss in agility (sp)

Yeah, the Prelude SH is a great handling car, pulling something like .92G on the skidpad with just a set of good tires (stock RE92s suck). And it runs the quarter mile and 0-60 in about the same times as my new Max. The problem is that even though it has a lot of torque for a Honda, it still doesn't have any torque. You have to keep it "hot" (4000+ rpm) if you want power to do anything but cruise without having to downshift. With the Maxima, anytime I want power all I have to do is push the gas pedal down a little further. In short, the only time the Prelude is just as fast as the Maxima is when you are drag-racing and shifting at redline. In the daily driving rpm range (1000-4000rpm) the Maxima is much faster because it makes so much more torque and power in that band.

As for the CRX, it was just an all-out racecar. It wasn't practical at all... with the polyurethane engine mounts it vibrated and shook like an off balance washing machine. It had no cruise control and no power anything. It was loud and brash. At 70mph on the interstate, it was revving 5000rpm. It was fast. But it was just too much of a tradeoff in comfort for me anymore. And I was starting to get tired of paying insurance on both a daily driver and a project car.

Sounds like a couple of fun cars...time to settle down now, well sort of.
