Strut Bushings Install w/pics!

After installing my rear KYB Gr-2 struts I noticed a loud clicking noise over every bump as if something was hitting together upon further inspection I found that the nut and washer on top of the strut was hitting together loud metal to metal contact. So I figured my bushings were bad so I ordered from my Nissan dealer some rear upper and lower strut bushings they were $4.25 each
1. upper/top bushing part number: 56217-61L10.
2. lower/bottom bushing part number: 56218-61L10.
One top and one bottom bushing for each side. Here are the install pics I installed both sides in one hour.
This fixed my problem 100%!

The top of the strut has a thick flat area just above the threads that you can hold with some vice grips. Grabbing the strut piston rod like that will mar the ultra polished shaft and over time will chew into the seals of your strut causing premature wear and totally voiding any warranty claim.

vise grips on the piston?! Ahh no way dude. Them things are gunna leak real soon. But aside from that, good work on locating the noises. I bought all new rear strut suspention parts so I never had a problem. But my front left spring binds up I think. Time for a upper strut bearing.

Yeah the vice grips on the piston isn't a good idea. I put the vicegrips on the end flat piece to prevent it from turning.

I love those spring compressors....I wish I had that type to work with when installing springs.

WERD!!!!!

The top of the piston shaft is the better position for the vise grips or an adjustable wrench.

Either way, last Friday I replace all of the bushing and hardware when I installed my new struts. No noises and I'm happy!

or just breaking loose the nut just a little bit while it's still on the car keeps it from spinning.
