reporting mods or insurance... yay or nay
i am about to put in a greddy cat back exhaust, random tech. high flow cat, technosquare chip, injen intake, new subs, amp, and head unit. I am doing all the work myself. Should I report these mods to the insurance company? Already my insurance is going to be high because I am a 17 year old male in Jersey, with a 2002 maxima with barely any mileage. Thanks for any input!

Hell if I could only get a maxima higher than a third gen then I'll be set. BTW I'm 17 years old too and switched my ins. to south carolina since I am going to college down therr. My ins. is onle 80/month. It's lovely. But it'll be really lovely when I can get a 2k2 max.

Yeah, I sometimes am amazed at the money on brand new cars by young people. Being a young person, 17, I sometimes get discriminated upon for using mommy's money. My car is a 95 and was worth less than $4K when it was given to me. I agree that a car is a very nice, great, and valuable gift but if its paid off it makes since to keep a well running car in the family rather than sell it and have the child buy a junker with 100+ miles and bad maintenance.

damn all you kids inheriting money and cars!
ive always had to pay my way for everything i own. car, mods, insurance, etc.
that was once thing that always got on my nerves, was kids getting brand new cars and not appreciating them.

i don't think it's his parent's car because if it was, the insurance would've been a lot cheaper under their names. I just hope you can afford the responsibilites of owning a vehicle like that. Pesonally I would never buy my kid a brand new car. Either they pay half and let them pay the rest and the maintenance fees. Giving them a brand new car doesn't teach em responsibility and the value of a hard earned dollar.

I guess when you are in HS nowadays the car is cheaper in the parents name since you are a new driver, so technically it is their car, but yours to drive the bulk of the time... Same thing with my friends 2000 Jeep Cherokee, he has it all modded with lift kit, lsd, brush bars and side steps, full a/v system...still daddys car, but whatever...
its all good...guess you think all of the mods are yours to remove if the car gets sold or whatnot..

i bought my 3rd gen 2-3 years ago when i was 17, no mom/dad help
and i didnt have to take out a loan or worry about screwing myself financially later on down the road like all these young people today who go by the quote "live today, pay tomorow"
plus id take a VE 3rd gen over any equally-conditioned 5th gen anyday

are you guys sure insurance will cover mods you dont report, even if you have the reciepts? seems like they would only cover it IF you reported it, otherwise you're getting covered for things you didn't pay insurance on...

Depends on the insurance company. Some won't pay, but some will for the mods that are not reported. I think the bigger ones would pay you (like State Farm or Allstate).
If you wrecked your car, the insurance company will give you an amount that they'll pay you. Then you can use your receipts to argue that the car is worth more so you can get more money out of them

My dad doesn't understand, well he does, but he thinks I'm crazy for liking my 3rd gen more than his 5th gen, lol.
As for mods and insurance, ask them. Better to ask now, than assume.
