RE4F04A: How long has this tranny been used?...
Regarding the synthetic fluid discussion below, I discovered that the VQ motor uses the same tranny that the VG in my 94 uses. I know that in '91 or '92 Nissan went to the RE4F04A tranny because of durability problems with the RE4F02A tranny with the VG motors.....or so I think anyway...
I guess my question revolves around the tranny problems with the 2k and up models.....is it still the RE4F04A tranny being used?
If it is, that's 62 more ponies that the tranny has to deal with, not to mention the large torque increase either....
I have a hard time believing a tranny originally tested on a 160 HP motor can withstand 222 ponies for a decent length of time.....we're talking a 50% increase in ponies and nearly that much in torque. Since Nissan doesn't have a rep for over-building trannies I wondered what gives?
Or am I late to the party again?

Ahh...but it doesn't. Your vg and my 93VG STILL used the 2A tranny.....BUT the 92-94se's used the 4A. Really....the only thing killing the tranny is the logic....not the power. When the shift solienods or the tcm get bad....the car takes its sweet azz time changing gears. During that slow shift the bands/clutchs are burning up/self destructing.
Don't feel so bad tho. Kaleb has informed me that the 2A recived some upgrades for 92 so the 92-94 2a is better than the 89-91 2a tranny.

Oh well, another theory thrown out the door...
