Need help with keyless entry remote
Need help with keyless entry remote
I just bought a keyless entry remote off of ebay for my '94 maxima. I followed the instructions listed (close and lock doors, insert key more than 6 times within 10 seconds, turn key to ACC, and push lock on remote). The instructions say that the hazard lights should flash after you insert the key more than 6 times to show that you have done it correctly. My hazard lights never flashed. I saw in someone in an altima forum post that you should set off the alarm, turn it off using the key, and then follow the instructions included. I decided to give this a try but now my alarm doesn't even work. It worked about a month ago. Any suggestions? Does anyone know what fuse I should check?
The auction said that the remote would work for any maxima manufactured Feb of 94 to May in 95. My car was manufactured in Febuary of 94. My car has a stock alarm so that if you reach in and try to unlock the doors it will go off. Why would it have this alarm and no remote. I called Nissan before I bought it and the guy I talked to said that my car did originally come with a remote keyless entry. He could have been wrong since he didn't ask for my VIN or look anything up but why would the car have the security feature and not a remote? I'll call Nissan again on Monday and see what they have to say. Here is the remote I bought (same seller and info to): link

That is all you can expect from the factory security system. The touchpad or your key disarms the factory alarm. The only way to have a keyless on your car is to get an aftermarket alarm with a door lock/unlock module or some other aftermarket keyless entry that would interface with the Nissan security system.

a car manufactured Feb 94 would be a 95 model.

I just checked the date again. The date under the hood and on the door jamb both say "Date: 02 '94". Unless this date is something other than the manufactured date, then my car was made in Feb of 1994. I don't know if this actually means anything for the keyless remote but that is the date.
The easiest way to tell is to locate the 10th character in your VIN. If it is R, you have a 94. If it's S, it's a 95.

all 3rd gens come stock with an alarm (use the key in the door to disarm it)
GXEs had the keyless entry with the door number pad
no stock US 3rd gens (89-94) came with remote keyless entry

I called Nissan again and the person I talked to said she didn't believe that it would have a remote keyless entry because the door keyless entry was used before the remote but that I should call a Nissan dealership to confirm that. I then called a Nissan dealership and the guy I talked to said that some special edition 1994 models had remote keyless entry and that if I brought my car up there they could tell me for sure if mine did. Since I followed the programming instructions exactly and nothing happened, I am going to assume mine is not a special edition (if in fact these even exist). Luckily, I can still return the remote to the guy on ebay. Thanks for the responses everyone.
