Did I make the Right Choice?? (also an audio question)

I have what appears to be the last year of a 3rd Generation series of Maxima (1994). I am totally new to the "Maxima Family" as I just bought the car yesterday.
As a new (used) car owner, I am still trying to get over the feelings of being "taken", but so far the car seems to be extremely solid and well taken care of. It has only 118,000 kms on it, quite low for a '94. (I just sold my 2000 VW Jetta that had about 110K). Being in Saskatchewan, there aren't very many Maxima's for sale. I bought the car for $9400, which I think, is a solid, average price. (Is it??)

Anyway, on with the question. I have a pair of 10" PPI subs and a PPI amp that I have kept from my Jetta sale. I have been doing some research in regards to how much work it is to install the speakers, amp (it has a factory cassette player - non BOSE system) and put in a new deck.

I have heard a few wiring horror stories for the powered speakers and am not really looking forward to installing the stereo myself. (Does my car even have these said speakers?) On the other hand I hate to hand an install guy a couple hundred bucks to do something that I would like to learn to do on my own.

Is this a difficult task? Are the dash panels and components easy to remove and install? Does a decent MP3 player screw to the dash assembly easily, or am I going to wish that I never cracked it open?

Any help would be appreciated on the question, and any reassurance on the purchase would also be welcome.

You got ripped off terribly. A 3rd gen shouldn't be more than $4k-$5k and you spent almost $7k.

Here was the closest model I could find to compare it to for sale at the time.

Canada isn't like the States. If you buy a car out of province, you have to jump through government hoops to get it inspected etc. You can buy them alot cheaper, but it costs you huge money.

Canadian...I live in Canada....

$9400 CDN = $6800 USD

There is a dealer here in town (population of about 260,000) that has the same year Maxima on for $11,500 CDN or about $8300 USD.

I thought it was a decent deal...wish I has access to more options.

Holy Sh*t! I live in Sarnia, Ontario. My 93SE with 170k was 1700 inc. tax! Didn't need a thing for a safety and had a valid e-test. I keep my eyes open and 3rd gens go from around 3-7 grand around here. I would feel taken too!

Although I think you did overpay, if you feel like you got a car in great condition and you really like it, then that's all that really matters. Also, I've never been to Saskatchewan, but I don't think that it's unreasonable to think that an abnormally small supply of Maximas there drives the price up from the "average".

Here's the Install Dr. guides, they labeled the years wrong, looks like you may want the 2nd guide.

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/Maxima.html

The important question is if you have an SE or GXE. The SE has a more powerful engine but the GXE has an edge on longevity.
