Pics:HIDs/Projector Headlights

Just retrofited so BMW X5 projectors with D2S Phillips 4300k bulbs. The beam pattern is great, I can see everything on the road now. As u can see, the projectors have a sharp cutoff line to avoid glaring oncoming traffic and it looks bluish purple from the distance.
I spend about $90 for the projectors and $300 for the HID kit, its alot easier than I thought to install. I highly recommend this mod to anyone. BTW I'm not that mechanically incline so if I can do it, you can too. Here are some pics, I have more on my cardomain site:http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/202855/5

Its pretty simple, just connect the power to low beam signal in our harness, ground to ground and if its bixenon, hook the solenoid wire to the high beam signal.

Looks good.
are those dot or e-code projectors?

Just a few suggestions, make a shield for the projectors and from the look of it you might need to rotate the left projector but its hard to tell from the pictures.

looks good man...but outta curiosity, are yours bixenon?? i had mine wired that way, and when i hit the highs the lights turned off, because it cuts power to the low beam power wire.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was about to say... It might not be a bad idea to get a bi-xenon wire harness from one of the guys on hidforum.com

Geo- Yea I believe they're dot projectors, they're directly off of a older BMW X5 so its not Bi-xenon. I do have plans later to switch over the projectors so it will be Bixenon. They pretty much sit flat in the housing, its hard to see in the pics because its dark but the cutoff line is pretty straight. I try to make a shroud for mine also (if you remember me emailling you about it) but never really got that done, I will eventually make a shroud for it though. Thanx for the suggestions.

Nupe500- sorry I didn't have any install pics cuz I didn't have a digicam, the only reason I got pics is I borrowed my roomie's. But Geo's cardomain site helped me alot with the install.

Mad_Max- no there are single beam, I read the bixenon wiring instruction from the HIDforum.com. Now I think of it would be difficult to wire bi xenon projectors because like you said theres only one power source when the hi beam is on when you need two, one to switch the shield in the projector and one to power the bulb. Thanx for bringing that up, guess I have to do more research on that one too.

Jeff92se-Basiically, I opened the headlight like you would to do the AE mod. Then I measured the length of the projectors and cut out the back of the housing where the orighnal bulb use to go. I made sure when I sat the projectors inside the housing that it would clear the lens and also it was straight, I did some aiming with the projectors on too to make sure they say correctly. I drilled two holes to connect the projector to the back of the housing with 2 3in bolts, it was also held together by epoxy. I also used a clay type of material(from Autozone) to seal the back of the housing because the hole I cut was big and if I didn't seal it, dust would of went in to the housing. Having a dremel helped a lot this took me a total of 10 hours to do.
There a really great pics of the install from Geo1317's site heres a link: http://maxima.cardomain.com/memberpage/202250/6
(his hole was a lot bigger than mine, I cut mine enough to clear the hole for the new bulb.)

If I can do this over again, I would love to get some Valeo's. I would of but I saw how much they were and I wasn't sure if I was able to make projectors fit in my housing so I elected to go with cheaper X5's. Valeo projectors are so nice and colorful, now I kinda regret not getting them

The second that they ever make a bi-xenon Valeo projector, I am completely sold on that. I love my Audio E-Code Bi-xenons that I installed in my Max, but like that picture of the Valeos, there is no comparison. The valeos just have the sharpest 35ish degree cut-off that I have ever seen, and with the neatest color spectrum of any projector....

Yea a used set of Valeo's can run as little as 280-300, if new, even more compared to a used set of Hella (what I have) for under 100. Definately more expensive but I think it would be worth it if you have the money to blow...

They aren't that expensive... go to hidtech.com and under products they have the whole package of two valeo ecode projectors, hella ballasts, and bulbs for like 460$. It's funny that the hella bi-xenons are less expensive and they have the solenoid and whatnot, but the color just isn't the same.

Just my only problem is that the Valeos do not have the high-beam capability yet. That is the only thing holding me back. I am sure that they are out there, but I am not spending near a grand just for the projectors alone...

so how did you end up wireing yours to stay on when you have it switched to high-beam?

There is a bi-xenon valeo, I believe they are used in the new Sabb 9-5. There's a fairly long thread about them on hidtech.com ... The projector itself is pretty big compared to the normal valeo though, maybe even bigger than the hella bi-xenon.

What i ended up doing was running the power from the corners to the balast and the low beam power wire from the headlights to the corners.
