Need help converting from a non Bose system

My 93 came with the standard radio which is the non Bose system. The head unit is less than the best so I replaced it with a Bose HU when it recently died. I have Rockford Fosgate aftermarket replacements rear speakers and they sound way better with the Bose HU feeding them. It seems that the rear speakers are powered. The front is another issue. I have non powewred Alpine aftermarket speakers and with the Bose HU, they sound like...well you know. If I get Bose amplified speakers do I have to rewire the car to power them or are they just plug and play.

Thanks

Do yourself a huge favor and get an aftermarket HU. I don't have nothing wrong with the bose system but after a while the Bose speakers and amps will go. If you are spending that amount of money in some Bose amplified speakers then a decent HU might cost around the same price. Plus you won't have to rewire anything.

I replace the same setup in my '93 with a Sony Hu, and Pioneer speakers in the stock sizes. The reason the rears sounded better is because the standard system uses an amp for the rears. It sits in the trunk between the two speakers. The reason your fronts sounded like s**t is because the Bose has that screwy 1ohm output, and the speakers are 4-8ohm. If your amp still works fine, go ahead and use it. Mine worked great untill you turned up the volume past 20, then it cut the rears out. I ended up just taking it out and running new wire from the HU back to get it all working right. Start with that, and add an Amp later. Most will recommend a good 4 channel, but a friend gave me a Phoenix Gold 2 channel that I hooked up to my rears. Once you figure out how to adjust everything, it sounds great! Oh yeah, definately get an aftermarket HU!
