Dealership Employment...
Dealership Employment...
So this is an off topic question, but maybe someone can help me.... I was wondering if any of you guys work for a Nissan dealer, or know of someone that does.
I'm a college student, looking for a second summer job, and thought Nissan may have something to offer(something basic--lot porter,ect...)
Most of you probably hate your local Nissan dealer, haha, but I actually had a great experience there...

I work for an auto group that includes a Nissan store (6 brands in all!)
I've been in sales and now service. Most car lots will hire people for service advisor or salesperson without much training or experience. Occasionally, they will have sltos open up for sales/service porters. If you go into sales or service positions be prepared to work long hours for commissioned (no guarantee) pay, although some dealers give you the first 2-3 months "guaranteed salary" training pay. There are few hourly jobs available at most dealerships and those usually are in accounting, porters, oil change techs, wash guys, etc.

I work at a Ford dealership part time. I have for the past 4 years while I've been in college. The job is great, basically recon, and going to auction. Ford doesn't make the best cars but its still a fun job and the pay is good. My suggestion is to look into getting into the detailing/recon area rather than just being a "lot boy".
they might be on to that by now from that article that guy wrote. Anyone else got any other lines?

I was a customer at Quality Nissan in Temecula for about 2 years and was very satisfied with their service. Most everyone there was cool and new me by my first name. After the stereo company I was working for was going down hill fast and needed a new job, a friend of mine in the service department said, "Hey, why not work here, you get Nissan stuff for cheap and labor rates at half price, plus you own a Maxima!" So I jumped at the chance and did it for 90 days. It was an experience I will not forget. Unfortunately things didn't work out for me there. It was very competitive and long strenuous hours. Stuff didn't work for me after the 90 days and was let go. I'm currently unemployed
looking for a new job. I although did meet alot of new friends there plus I still get hooked up
my advice is get to know your Nissan dealership

I work at a honda dealership, right down the street from a nissan dealership, so I am there almost everyday anyway. As for employment, If you are looking for a partime summer job the easiest one to get would be a lot person or porter.

They are the people that clean the cars.
I worked in a Cadillac/Olds dealership when I was a freshman--I suppose when you're 18 it's fun to "gas up the stretch limo" or "vacuum that brand-new Fleetwood," but it's really a useless job for a college student.
The Fleetwood makes the Nissan Armada laughable--not only could the Fleetwood go down the road at 225" and 78" wide, it could tow like an SOB too. But I guess the Armada commercials look so cool that a potential buyer just buys the TN made ****!!!!
My suggestion is to have your parents provide the hook-up. Our co. laid off scores of employees company wide back in Feb., but guess what? All the summer interns are back. All kidding aside the pay is very high, and you learn real business processes. Aim high brother.

I also thought my parents helping to hook up a job at Nissan is the best way, but I may try applying online at the dealer's website first, see what happens....
Since I don't have any experience or anything, its all about 'who you know' I guess, and luck, haha.
Thanks for all the input guys.

Its a lot of do this, sweep the floor, go wash this car and then that car. You are basically the shop *****. BUt it is easy to get a job as a lot boy, they change all the time, I dont even bother learning their name anymore.
