Painting my leather seats
Painting my leather seats
Well im painting my tan leather seats to look 2-tone. I bought Black Color Bond spray for leather, vinyl, and hard plastic. The only thing I want to know before I start is if the directions are right, it says to use it 2-inches away from surface. 2 inches seems a little close to me lol. It also says apply 2-3 mist coats, but how can you do good mist coats if its 2 inches away??
btw i plan to make it look something like this..

If it's like a spray can, you better vaporise at 10-12 inches from the surface otherwise it's going to make too much deposit, to make a nice job you are better to spray thin layer and wait between the layers so it dry out completely. Before you start give it a try on a box or card board. Also when you spray you want to release the trigger every time you are near the edge this way you wont overspray and it will look good.
Good luck

I tried this and it will not work the dye/paint will start to come off no matter how you prep the surface or how you spray it on....I went to the junkyard and bought some tan leather rear seats for $50.00 to practice w/and it did not work for me.....I did dye my trunk panels black though w/the spray dye..
Well it really depends on the condition of the leather and the amount of prep you put into it. I did a set of 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Seats for my 95 Caprice. They were Maroon to start with, but I got them very cheap and figured what the hell. I bought SEM Surecoat, SEM Crosslinker, SEM Soap, 600 Wet/Dry Sandpaper and a bunch of Greased Lightning and went to town. Clean, sand, clean, sand, clean some more. The seats were very dull looking when I sprayed them. I then mixed the SEM and applied it in multiple thin layers using a HVLP gravity feed sprayer. I did a 2-Tone grey and it still looks great to this day and I get compliments everytime a new person looks in the car. It's doable, but you have to use quality products and do a very good job with the prep. I've done numerous other steering wheels, airbags, door panels, etc. The key is prep, and nothing beats using a HVLP sprayer.

I was f*cking with you there buddy, but in that case what parts are you talking about? If you mean the plastic pieces on the side of the seats, those come off really fast, no need to cover them. Pretty much all of the little parts can be taken right off before his little project

UNIXADM I saw your site and your seat look really nice. But I was wondering..... is your car a show car or a daily driver? I just never imagined that one could "paint" leather unless you are actually spraying dye onto the leather. I would think that the paint would not be absorbed by the leather and it would wear off on people back sides.
