I decided to drop my car before getting a y-pipe and while I still don't have a y-pipe I would say save up and drop your car first. The Maximas weak spot is its handling and good springs will make it a totally different car vs the slightly better straight line performance with the y-pipe. Plus you also get rid of that ugly family sedan wheel gap

I'm so glad I did the drop first...it looks so much better than the 4x4.

Well from my experience it is best to lower the car AND replace the struts at the same time. So in actuality a Y-pipe would be cheaper. Aftermarket struts do make a BIG difference in suspension.

I would buy the y-pipe and the springs, then only install the y-pipe until you can find some struts.

I agree with everyone who posted so far, do Springs/Struts first, it will change the driving characteristics of your car dramatically, making it feel so much better and sporty.

plus not everyone likes the sound of the y-pipe but everyone loves the look of a dropped max vs the 4 X 4 look

i say y-pipe first then the suspension. I live in nyc and I just can't stand the bumps in the road so my suspension is stock. I don't notice a wheel gap...

hey you make a good point. I was up in Washington DC a few weeks ago and I noticed that the roads weren't very "maintained", at least not as much as the suburbs. I was scared I blew a strut just driving for 5 minutes on those pieces of ****.

What do you want? Better straight line performance or the ability to corner/handle much better? Having done both mods, I'm glad I got the Y-pipe first because I had a chance to play with the power gain; now, with my aftermarket suspension, I spend a lot more time turning because driving the car is a lot more fun now.

I think you should do suspension first....

Recently I have told myself that all the money for the maxima will be spend on cosmetics (body kit, lighting, etc.)

I might change my mind at some point and do performance.
