I searched for information on refinishing wheels, but the info wasn't too thorough. I have some scratches on my wheels from a few curbs, and I wanted to get them fixed up. I figured the best way would be to sand down the surface so it is flat again and follow up with a polish. I also wanted to do the polished valve cover, so I was wondering if we use the same polish for both? I bought Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish, but I've seen people mention Meguire's polish as well. Is there any difference between the products, and would I be doing wrong in sanding my wheels before polishing?

I don't think that those wheels have a polished finish. I think they are painted silver. Most aftermarket wheels are painted silver. You would have to get them repainted.
