catalytic converter w/o pre-cats
#1
Just a quick note:
We have been discussing some catalytic converters with a manufacturer which if as specified are legal to use when one decides not to replace ones pre-cats. It can be used as a single main converter on vehicles which have a main and 2 precats.
So far we know it is legal in at least 49 states, the engineer I spoke with yesterday is supposed to be furnishing us with a letter that says it also includes California. If this is truly the case it just might make the off road purpose only blurb a thing of the past. We will of course confirm their info with the CARB as well when we get the letter. I don't see this as a solution to the 99 up CA emissions front o2 sensor problem however.
We will keep you updated. Best thing is that converter is one we have flow tested in the past and is about the same price as the one we use now.
Anyway I will be at the Memphis, TN Exhaust show next week for a few days talking with the various muffler and converter suppliers and manufacturers about some specific needs for the gen3, 4 and 5 Maxima. One of the topics we are looking at is addressing the o2 sensor issue on the front pre-cat on the CA 1999-2001 models.

Nope, not going to Graceland.
