What ever happened to Nissan's plan about introducing the XVL?? That car is sick.. 6-speed (or new age 5-speed auto), close to 300hp, RWD, looks good (in my opinion), New age VLSD, roughly the same size as the max, what more could you ask for?

As for the Alty/Max talk... I'm kinda sick of hearing it.. not sure how everyone else feels. I am frustrated with Nissan. I do not want to see the Maxima get bigger in size. Personally, I love the size it is now. I love the fact that the Maxima is Nissan's flagship and has the Performance/Luxury attitude. Now all of a sudden is seems like the Altima is taking over that roll. Nissan should just discontinue the Altima... change the new Altima to the Maxima and then introduce the XVL. I feel that would be a nice solution.

SkyMax: Why change the name of hte Altima to Maxima? A rose is still a rose by any other name.

I'm sure Nissan has big plans for hte Maxima, you won't be dissappointed.

i doubt that nissan would release a car to rival the z which they have spent so long redesigning. there goes the xvl. don't count it out as an infiniti model of the future though. unlike acura and lexus, infiniti doesn't offer a 2-door coupe version of any vehicle. depending on how the company continues to turn around in the next few years with the new altima, sentra se-r, max se-r, and then the bigger max along side the new q-45 and i-35...i wouldn't be surprised in infiniti didn't release an all out race bred spors car as the icing on the cake. i would look for it to take aim even at the all-mighty m3.

Well it almost seems like the new Altima is turning into the current Maxima. The Altima is creating a new image for itself. If you look at the new Altima pics, it is very closely related to the 5th gen Maxima design.

Look at the XVL and then the altima.....they are pretty damn close in my eyes. The xvl will appear in the infinti lineup. Remember they are killing the g20 at some point.

The new Altima is starting to remind me of the 240sx (R.I.P)

Remember the 240sx? Nissan tried to make it "upscale" and no one bought the damn thing! They had better make the price reasonable and have one hell of an advertisting campaign to make people pony up for what used to be a budget car.

Sure, people like us, (enthusiasts) know the difference. But do you think your average idiot knows (or even cares) that the new Altima has 240hp? All they see is a higher price. Hello Toyota Corolla!

I kind of agree with SkyMax..

Looks like everything is moving up in class a bit... Nissan is trying to almost look like Toyota with the Avalon-like NEW Maxima, ofcourse it will be in a class of it's own with the tremendous power.. I just don't want to see the "Maxima" be a huge full-size sedan, it will likely be more luxury oriented, more power, more heavy, bigger in size. They should have taken the Altima and make it hop up to a full size sedan, instead of making the Maxima do it..

The Sentra will be more powerful, outperforming Corolla's, Escorts and Civics.. Altima being offered as a 4 cyl and a 6 cyl will compete with the Accord and Camry 4 and 6 cyls. outperforming them as well, 180 hp 2.5 4 cyl? compared to 140-150 4 cylinder Camrys and Accords.. and the V6 has good 40 hp on the Camry and Accord V6's.... Now I don't see any competition for the new Maxima, except 300M, Boneville, or Avalon.. all of which are decent mid-size cars..

What makes me pissed is;
The Maxima is freaking 20 years old, and has built a nice image as a 4 door sports sedan, I think every generation Maxima was the best looking and performing car amongst it's competition (Camry, Accord, Galant, Taurus, etc) Taking that status and trying to shove it over to a 8 year Altima line, which hasn't made anything mindblowing yet, makes me kind of upset. But we have to wait and see what the Maxima will be like.

I see what Nissan is trying to do though,
moving their sedans up in class a bit, will still keep same public interest in the car, however, each car will be more expensive as well as more powerful and bigger.. people may still see cars named "Sentras, Altimas, and Maximas" as small sedan, affordable economic midsize sedan, and powerful midsize sedan, but they will all be more then that, and will cost more then they used to as well... however, it will keep interest more then just creating a new line of cars with another name, it will take more time to make it successful.. This is less risky and morons like us are going to sit here and go nuts anticipating the specs of these cars, because we are so faithful to them
