His car is in my yard. We're cutting weight by letting it rust.

BS, aftermarket pulley is 1lb 8oz. Stock is 4lbs 3 oz.

You drive on two gallons of gas? I won't ask you about weight saving ever again.

What do you guys do about water pump issues? My PS and WP are on a single belt on the VE. I have actually thought about losing my PS. I've already lost my alty belt for the track! It's the biggest loss in power out of all your accessories. But how does your water pump turn if you are only running an alternator belt?

Water pump is chain driven on the VQ. In that pic its behind the black cover on the right. No alt? Wow! How long does the car run on the battery alone? Do you have a lightweight battery also?

Its run off are timing chain.

Broaner my cars not a taxi or a tractor trailer 2-3 gallons will get me 60-90 miles and theres gas stations every 20foot .also i can go a year and not drive more than 30miles at a time.
My car is my sports car to me nothing else.

Thanks Kris and Broaner. I didn't know the VQ WP was chain driven. Mine is belt driven.

Broaner, my car should run for about 2 hours without an alternator. But I only remove the belt at the track. It seriously makes a noticable difference on the street. But I never roll around like that on the street. I just spend 2 minutes to remove the alty belt at the track to free up a tenth or two. It's seriously a nice power gain! Have you ever manually spun an alternator? Sure you have! It's not a free spinning pulley!

edit: No I don't have a light weight battery. That would shave about 20-30lbs, but I think the gain in power from removing the alty belt is BIGGER! So I keep my heavy 800CCA battery and just lose the alt belt. I feel it's a must better way to be faster in the 1/4 mile, than getting a light weight 300CCA battery and keeping the alt belt on the car. I wouldn't imagine a 300CCA light battery would run the car for long without the alternator being attached.

Kris, have you removed the EGR yet? I thought you had. If so you should be getting less than 25MPG and maybe even as low as 15.

Aaron, that is really interesting to know. Maybe I'll try that next time I'm at the track. You have an OEM battery? I should have no problem racing all day with the Optima.

I've removed my EGR system. I don't want exhaust flowing back in my intake manifold! It heats it up and makes it dirty! I know it only opens at partial throttle to help emissions, but I got rid of that a long time ago. I don't have to worry about emissions.

Jsutter, how much does the headliner weigh? 10lbs or so?

Yes, I have an OEM sized battery. It's the best battery I could find at Auto Zone. It matches the CCA as the Optima batteries at a much lower price. They just don't last as long and are not vibration resistant. No biggie.

The CCA's are all fine and dandy but that doesn't really matter in this situation. What maters is the reserve and the Red top has lots more reserve than any normal battery.

I really hate EGR. I've been cleaning my LIM for 10 hours in a parts cleaner and it barely looks like I touched it. That is another mini-project I have for the winter. Its all removed and blocked up. Now I just have to trick the ECU. When I have the IM EH'ed I don't want it gummed up by horsesh!t after the second mile. How is your gas mileage without it? Did you trick the ECU or just ignore the code? I really hate having the CEL on.

Can anyone think of a way to get the sunroof glass to stay in and sealed without the track? I'm selling my rack within the month to 95CustomMax. I'm thinking along the lines of clips on the side but I've never seen what that area looks like. Is it just sheet metal around the opening or is it reinforced and thick enough to drill in something similar to a bathroom mirror clip?

Trick the ECU? haha I have OBDI stuff! So I simply removed my EGR, fabbed up a block plate and installed it and sealed off my RH exhaust manifold tube. My gas mileage didn't change one bit!

Japmax, how is it without windshield wipers? How much does it all weigh? I'd like to get rid of mine. I'd also like to move to a dry tire like the PZero Corsa. Its dangerous to drive in the rain and I hate it cause it makes the RSB and rear struts squeak.

When I put Rain-X on, I never use my windshield wipers. The harder it rains, the clearer it gets. I love that stuff!

Rain-x begins to work at ~30MPH with our windshield angle. By 45 my windshield is clear. Its just in Madison lots of the non-highway/country roads have 30MPH speed limits. But then, if I have a dry only tire I should head for home when it begins to rain anyway.

I was able to see just fine even at a stand still in pouring rain!! This stuff is awesome! I seriously NEVER turn on my wipers no matter what speed I am going. At a stand still, the water falls down so much, it's crystal clear. While you're moving, the water gets pushed off the top, making it crystal clear.

the wiper motor is a few lbs. add the linkage, arms, wiring? could be 10 lbs.

I dont remember what the headliner weighes, i guess about 10-12 lbs. if i added up the liner, visors, lights, controls, and handles i would guess in the mid 20 lbs area. maybe more. i should have recorded the weights of the interior parts. http://lighter.maxdes.net/ has some good info.

How do you get to the wiper linkage? Just remove the black trim piece? How does it come off?

If anyone needs it I will sell all wiper parts.

yes the trim is at base of windshield. 1st take off the wiper arms, then the black plastic cowl. inside you will see 2 rods, they have ball and socket type fittings. pop them apart. unplug and unbolt the motor and unbolt the remaining assembaly.

Do Optima's need to be vented? I might move mine to the rear if it doesn't sit too high up front already. Anyone have a 5Spd with Progress and moderate front weight saving?

I ran mine through inside the car driver side floor near the door tucked under the carpet. I think it's the safest way to do it and easiest way. I thought about doing it underneath the car but clearance issues arise and it would be to much work to get underneath and make brackets and what not. If you hit a bump or scar the shielding your screwed.

Count another pound off. Long ago I decided to rid myself of the cruise control system. It was good for a bit of weight reduction and increased throttle response by removing the extra spring on the TB. While doing the 5Spd swap I realized that I won't be needing the switch on the clutch pedal that disengages the cruise control when the clutch is depressed. I also knew that I wasn't going to hassle with running the wires for the clutch interlock. So I removed both these sensors and cut off the brackets to hold them.
