I just reversed into my parking spot and while I did it
I think I heard a "pop" sound. When I stopped I couldn't move my shifter at all, even with the clutch in. It seems
like an easy enough problem to diagnose. So what is it?
Thanks,
Brian

??
i don't think your clutch plate could possibly break.(backing into a parking spot). does your pedal feel normal? can u get the shifter unjammed. maybe linkage jammed up, have u recently installed short throw shifter? i don't want to think tranny at this point.

Well I didn't "just" reverse into a space. I first backed up about 75 feet at about 15-20 mph. Then when I was at the space I wanted to park in I turned the wheel quickly to slip into the space. As my car was turning I think I heard a pop. I can't move the shifter at all - it's stuck in reverse. The clutch pedal feels normal. I have had the short shifter on for more than 2 years, so I doubt that it is the culprit.
What do you mean when you say it may be the linkage?
Thanks,
Brian

Is a "stuck" shifter an easy problem to fix, generally? I guess I want to know if I would need parts to fix it or would I just have to move it around a bit to get it unstuck? Do you know if this is an expensive problem to fix!!?? I'm getting tired of spending lots of dough on repairs that I cause!

It sounds like you didn't install the
short shifter yourself. If not, then take it to a mechanic.
I can't be 100% on the linkage. I mean it could also be a slipped shift fork in the tranny also. Internet diagnostics is tough ya know. If it's a shift fork, then it's expensive. If it's a shifter linkage, then it's cheap to fix.

Well...
The car does move in reverse. I had it towed yesterday to the dealer. He said it's not the shift linkage on the outside of the tranny, so he's taking the tranny out to look at the internals. Maybe it's the shift fork like Jeff92SE said. Oh well, it's about that time of year where I get my tranny taken out and get footed with a large bill anyway. I'll post an update of the problem once they call me back.
