Neal is definitely a driver and his new car is definitely capable of putting down some numbers.

Tested out my friend's 2004 G35X this weekend. Boy oh Boy! I like it. It has more power than my friend 2000 Lexus GS300.

Oh for my plans, install window up module again. I have to run more wires into the door first.

Neal bought Hal's turbo 4th gen which did 12.0@122mph turbo only and 11.9@125mph with the 50-shot. I30Mike is turboing his I30 this spring and I have no doubt he'll be in the 12s also, but I believe he's going for a more daily driver friendly setup.

I commend you for going all NA and a 3.5 VQ in a super light 4th gen will be terribly quick. I have no doubt you could beat a lot of SC Maximas, but keep in mind most of the boosted guys aren't die hard drag racers like ourselves. Most of these guys have heavy stereos, 19" rims, and don't have a clue on how to race. Put a good driver behind the wheel of a boosted car along with pulling out the bling-bling weight and I think you'd see a lot more quicker boosted cars. The math is there. A SC'd 4th gen with the normal mods of a MEVI, JWT ECU, 370 injectors, 3.2" pulley, and y-pipe putting down the normal 290whp/260wtq "should" run with a very healthy stripper NA 3.5VQ 4th gen making 250-260whp/260wtq. 3000lbs/280whp = 10.3:1 vs 2600lbs/260whp = 10:1. Throw a turbo 4th gen into the mix and the turbo should walk the 3.5VQ pretty easily.

I'm keeping my 99 until the wheels fall off. In spite of flaws, I love it. 4th gens > *

And one of the things I love the most about it is the fact that at 3000-3100 lbs it's lighter than most 4-cylinder mid-sized cars today, yet has a kick azz V6 under the hood, and a close-ratioed manual transmission. I love "not getting beat" by Hondas with 50, 60, 80, or even 110hp more. You don't need a lot of power to go fast when you're 300, 600, or even 900 lbs lighter than these "newer faster" cars, and also have a manual tranny.

Combine a sturdy engine with loads of potential (3.5 hybrids, S/C, turbos, JWT ECU 95-96's w/MEVI) and a very lightweight chassis and you have a beast on your hands. These cars never cease to amaze.

If Nissan revived the 4g Maxima and started selling them as new again just with minor updates, I would probably buy one in a hearbeat. The only thing really matching the 4g Max formula today is the Mazda 6s, but the Duratec lacks the torquey VQ feel, and then the Acura TSX, but it's a 4-banger, although a very good one. Both of those are good cars, better in some ways, but worse in others. Neither have convinced me that it's time to trade.

So anyways, no plans for the Max. Just regular maintenance. It'll be paid off in 6 months too so I'll just keep driving it and enjoy not having a car payment.

Cams, but haven't decided for which car yet.
Maybe a built tranny for the 4th gen.
I should just be smart and save my money.

Im sorry but i have never seen boosted HP do what NA HP has done even with similar weights. SR20den had a race weight of prob 3200lbs 250whp and ran 13.19 @107 ,a boosted car with that power will run much slower the same weight . Why do you think the nitrious shots are used because the boosted powerband is not as nice as the NA powerband.
I know boost is faster but on a maxima it seems to take huge HP to go fast with boost.

But i never said ill beat every boosted car around im just trying to say that i will make "boosted cars look stupid". And i believe a 280whp NA 4th gen weighing 2500lbs will do that.

I just want to get my car running the way it should. I already have all the mods to beat the majority of imports on the road. If I can just replace the tranny and clutch (mucho $!), motor mounts, coils, O2 sensors, springs, hood, fender, windshield, trunklid and belts I think I'll have what I wanted out of a 4DSC. Probably less than half of these things will happen this year though!!!

best of luck to everyone though!!!

Man it is just a whole bunch of little things over the past year and a half. (fender bender, blown strut through the hood, Gigantic branch fell on my car, etc.) I have never been in a serious accident. you should buy Jay's turbo if his bro doesn't ****** it first!!

Would love to but I only have about $2500 to spend. I'm looking into a V1 kit so maybe boosting will be a reality this year.
Talk about little things here and there. Last year I replace coil packs, ecu, tranny, drive axle, motor and the year before some punk rear ended me with his 3z and did 8Gs worth off damage, I had to fork out my insurance's deductable... however, I was able to still do some modding: DMS pulley, TS ecu then JWT 7.2k redline, HIDs, 3z calipiers/13in rotors (going on soon), DVD/TV/speakers...
Hopefully this year it would be better. [knock on wood!]

9. 00VI conversion or MEVI
10. New interior (probably white)

13. Tint windows (frost)
14. Clean the engine, TB
15. New Y/B pipes

Well for one thing the surgey juiced and turboed cars definitely have more overall power, but it's very difficult to put it down well. The all-motor cars have smoother and more controllable powerbands. Plus I know that the all-motor guys really drive the snot out of their cars. I suspect that the "some" (not all) of the boosted guys may be relying on their raw power to give them good times and that they don't quite have the driving skills of the all-motor guys.

So it's not just about raw power, but how well you can put it down also, how well you can drive it, and whether the type of power your car makes and its powerband is optimized for the track or not. A big laggy turbo that makes gazillions of horsepower up top but doesn't spool until 4000 rpm obviously isn't going to work very well at the track since it won't be fully spooled until you cross the 1/8th mark. Hence the joke, "what's the difference between a 700 rwhp and a 400 rwhp Supra? They both run 11's. "

Ah, so we know that the best drivers often develop and fine tune their skills in NA cars. Now take one of these drivers and boost the car and you have one fast fxcking car.
